Before You Begin

These instructions apply only to frame 5 PowerFlex® 700 and PowerFlex 700S

AC drives. You can verify your drive frame size by checking the data nameplate on

the side of the drive.

ATTENTION: Allow only qualified personnel, familiar with AC drives and

associated machinery, to plan or implement the installation, start-up and

subsequent maintenance of the system. Failure to comply can result in personal

injury and/or equipment damage.

ATTENTION: This drive contains Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive parts

and assemblies. Static control precautions are required when you install, test,

service, or repair this assembly. If ESD control procedures are not followed,

component damage can result. If you are not familiar with static control

procedures, see the Guarding Against Electrostatic Damage, publication 8000-

4.5.2 or any other applicable ESD protection handbook.

IMPORTANT

The drive catalog number, 20B in this example, identifies a PowerFlex 700

drive. Verify that the serial number on your drive data nameplate matches a

serial number that is identified in the Product Safety Advisory (PSA)

#2014-06-003.

PowerFlex 700/700S Frame 5 Drives 600/690V Brake Bus Bar Insulator Installation What This Kit Contains One piece of Tyco Electronics heat shrink tube (1.5…2.0 in.), part number RNF-3/4-1-BK-STK. Note: If this part is lost or damaged, it is acceptable to use another 1.5…2.0 in. piece of UL Listed equivalent heat shrink tube in its place. Recommended Tools The following list of tools is provided for your reference to disassemble and reassemble the drive and components.

Locate the slot in the upper left corner of the drive cover and slide up the locking tab. 2. Loosen the hexalobular screw on the right side of the drive and remove the cover. CAUTION HOT surfaces can cause severe burns 3. Remove the three hexalobular screws that secure the clear-plastic protective cover to the chassis and remove the cover.

Remove the hexalobular screw that secures the cable to the lower brake bus bar and remove the screw. 1 2. Open the cable tie that secures the bus bars to the chassis. 3. Slide the shrink wrap tube over the end of the bus bar and leave the fastener hole exposed.

PowerFlex 700/700S Frame 5 Drives 600/690V Brake Bus Bar Insulator Installation 4. Secure the lower brake bus bar to the cable by using the existing hardware. Tightening torque is 1.69 N•m (15 lb•in). 5. Slide the shrink wrap tube over cable and bus bar connection. IMPORTANT The tube must overlap the existing bus bar insulation by a minimum of 0.5 inches so that the tube covers all exposed conductor surfaces.

If necessary, to make reinstallation of the cable tie easier, remove the hexalobular screw that secures the MOV to the chassis and remove the MOV. 6 7. Secure the bus bars to the chassis by closing the cable tie. Note: It is acceptable that the cable tie partially secures the shrink wrap tube in place.

Tightening torque is 3.16 N•m (28 lb•in). 9. Shrink the tube over the cable and bus bar connection by using a heat gun. Note: The tube does not need to conform fully to the bus bar and/or cable, but must not be able to move after shrinking. 9 Install the Protective Covers Install the protective covers in the reverse order of removal. See.
