Q. The mops are becoming gray. What’s causing this and what can I do to
brighten the pad?
A: Quaternary Ammonium disinfectants remove floor finish and deposit
“dirty” residue on the pad fibers. Below is a laundry procedure to improve the
pad’s appearance and performance.
Rubbermaid® Textile Reclaim Formula
Due to the recent changes in the composition of quaternary ammonium
disinfectants, some of our customers have experienced a "graying effect" with our
textile cleaning products. Based on data provided to us by numerous laundering
and chemical professionals, the cause of this problem has been identified as an
acrylic floor finish build-up on the mop. The quaternary ammonium disinfectant
"strips" some of the acrylic finish from the floor surface and then is mixed with
quantities or dirt, oil and grease to cause a residue on the mop. This residue
coats the mop fibers, which is not removed by traditional laundering formulas.
In order to help our customers address this graying problem, we, with the
assistance of laundering professionals, have developed a laundering reclaim
formula. This formula will reclaim some of the mops original color and
performance. We recommend that the following formula be used once every two
or three weeks in place of the standard laundering formula.
Operation Water Level Temperature Time (min) Chemical (per 100 lbs.)
