Use and Care Manual
Rug Care and Maintenance:
Vacuuming:
• Vacuum without beater bar (brush) or use hand-held attachment
• Avoid vacuuming fringed edges, tassels, or bound edges to prevent fraying
Spot cleaning:
• Blot spills immediately using a clean white cloth
• If using any type of cleaner, test for compatibility and colorfastness of the rug by applying a
small amount to an inconspicuous area of the rug
• Professional cleaning is recommended
Rug Types:
Tufted/Hooked Rugs:
• Vacuum with the grain (run your hand along the surface of the rug to determine what direction
the fibers run in). You may also use an electric carpet sweeper. Spills are best cleaned using an
acetic or citric acid rinse instead of water
Indoor/outdoor
• Instructions for indoor/outdoor rugs: mix a small amount of clear, mild detergent with water
• Let both sides of the rug dry completely in direct sunlight
Natural Fibers
• Trim loose fibers – Do not ever pull them
• Seek the assistance of a professional rug cleaner for any difficult to remove stains
Shag rugs
• Fluff the surface by hand when first opening packaging
• Shag rugs will shed due to the high pile height
• Before vacuuming, flip rug over and shake out any loose debris
• Using a suction only attachment, vacuum in between individual rows on your rug
Leather/Cowhide
• Shake out any dirt or debris or use a hand-held vacuum attachment – No beater bars
• Do not use any chemical cleaners on a leather / cowhide rug
• Lightly blot any spills using a clean white cloth
