Turning your camera on or off Press [POWER] to turn your camera on or off. Mini dashboard While the camera is turned on, Mini dashboard shows you the remaining capacity of the battery and memory card. • When exposing the camera to a hot and humid environment, condensation can form on the gauges. • If the hand of a gauge keeps spinning around, contact a service center. • The gauge and the battery and memory card icon on the display may show different capacities.
Setting options You can set options by pressing [E], [MENU/OK], or [Fn] and using the navigation buttons ([e], [t], [w], [r]). 1 2 E.g. Taking photos 1 Rotate the mode dial to 2. Zooming You can shoot close-up photos by adjusting the zoom. Your camera has a 5X optical zoom and 5X digital zoom. By using both, you can zoom in up to 25 times. Push or push and hold [Zoom] up to zoom in on your subject. Push or push and hold [Zoom] down to zoom out. 2 Align your subject in the frame. Zoom in Zoom out 3 Half-press [Shutter] to focus. • Green: In focus • Red: Out of focus 4 Press [Shutter] to take a photo.
Taking photos Digital zoom Reducing camera shake If the zoom indicator is in the digital range, your camera is using the digital zoom. The picture quality may deteriorate when you use the digital zoom. Optical range Reduce camera shake optically by pressing [OIS] in Shooting mode. When you use the OIS function, the OIS icon is displayed. Zoom indicator Digital range • The digital zoom is not available when using 7, 6, 5, 4 (in some scenes), and 3 modes and when used with Face detection.
Using the Photo Help Guide mode This mode provides various shooting tips. Learn to get better photos and videos. 1 Rotate the mode dial to 8. 4 Press [t] to view a topic. • Press [w] or [r] to display the previous or next screen. To use flash Press the Flash button repeatedly to display the Flash icon (lightning shape) on the screen. 2 Press [w] or [r] to select a menu.
Changing the display type Press [w] repeatedly to change the display type for Shooting and Playback modes. Press [w] once or twice to display or hide the description for the selected shooting option. SIZE Set the photo size.
Transferring files (for Windows) Transfer photos, videos, voice memo that you stored on the camera to your PC or transfer multimedia files to the camera so that you can play or view them on the camera. Use the supplied USB cable after installing any programs you need from the CD.
Transferring files (for Windows) 1 2 Insert the installation CD in a CD-ROM drive. When the setup screen is displayed, click Samsung Digital Camera Installer to start installation. Connecting the camera to your PC Once you connect your camera to your PC, the camera will be recognized as a removable disk. The battery will be charged while the camera is connected to a PC with the USB cable. 1 Plug the USB cable into the camera and your PC.

Transferring files (for Mac) Once you connect the camera to a Macintosh computer, the computer will recognize the camera automatically. You can transfer files directly from the camera to the computer without installing any programs. • Mac OS X version 10.3 or later is supported. • Supported file types and languages are the same as the Windows version. (p.22) • To use PMP files, you must first convert the files using Samsung Converter on a Windows computer.

Shooting modes Preventing your subject from being out of focus • It is hard to get your subject in focus when: - there is little contrast between the subject and background (When your subject is wearing a color of clothing that is similar to the background.
Recording voice memos Record a voice memo that you can play back at any time or add a voice memo to a photo as a short reminder of shooting conditions. You will get the best sound quality when recording 40 cm away from the camera. Selecting a resolution and quality Selecting a resolution When recording a video: 217543 As you increase the resolution, your photo or video has more pixels in it, so it can be printed on larger paper or displayed on a larger screen. When you use a high resolution, the file size will also increase. When taking a photo: 1 2 3 In the 3 mode, press [Fn]. Press [w] or [r] to select SIZE. Press [e] or [t] to select an option. Shooting in the dark Preventing red-eye Using the flash 2154 If the flash fires when you take a photo of a person in the dark, a red glow may appear in the eyes. To prevent this, select (Red Eye) or (Red Eye Fix). 2154 Use the flash when taking photos in the dark. In Shooting mode, press [e] repeatedly to change the flash option. Shooting in the dark Option Adjusting the ISO speed Description • The flash fires and the shutter stays open longer. (Slow Sync) • Select this in the evening or in the dark. • It is a good idea to use a tripod to prevent your photos from blurring. • The flash will not fire. • Camera shake warning ( ) is displayed in (Off) the dark. • The flash fires when the subject or background is dark. (Red Eye Fix)* • The camera corrects red-eye through its advanced software analysis.
Changing the camera’s focus Using macro Using auto focus 2173 Use macro to take close-up photos of subjects, such as flowers or insects. 2173 To take sharp photos, select the appropriate focus according to your distance from the subject. In Shooting mode, press [r] repeatedly to change the focus distance option. Option • Try to hold the camera very still to prevent blurry photos. • Turn the flash off if the distance to the subject is less than 40 cm.

Using face detection 21754 If you use face detection options, your camera can automatically detect a human face. When you focus on a human face, the camera adjusts the exposure automatically. Take photos conveniently by using Blink Detection to detect closed eyes or Smile Shot to capture a smiling face. 1 2 3 4 Option Description Take photos of yourself. The color of your photo depends on the type and quality of the light source.

Fluorescent_H Select when shooting under a daylight fluorescent or three-way fluorescent light. Fluorescent_L Select when shooting under white fluorescent light.
Using burst modes 14 It can be difficult to take photos of fast-moving subjects or capture natural facial expressions and gestures of your subjects in photos. In these cases, select one of the burst modes. Option AEB Description • Take three photos with different exposures: normal, underexposed, and overexposed. • It is best to use a tripod because it takes some time to save photos taken with AEB. Playing back Viewing files as thumbnails Protecting files Scan through files using thumbnails. Protect your files from accidential deletion. Enlarging a photo • This function does not work for videos or voice memos. • It may take longer to delete files when using the recycle bin function. • If you format the internal memory or memory card, all files in the recycle folder will be deleted.

Editing a photo Perform photo editing tasks, such as resizing, rotating, eliminating red-eye, and adjusting brightness, contrast, or saturation. Resizing photos Editing color You can reduce the size of a photo and save it as a new file or set a photo as a start image which will be displayed when the camera is switched on. Apply a different color tone to the photo, such as B/W, Sepia, or Blue and save it as a new file. 1 2 3 In Playback mode, select a photo and press [E]. Select .

Editing a photo Option Description Size Specify the size of the print. • Select: specify the print size for the selected photo. • All Pics: specify the print size for all photos. * You can print multiple photos with DPOF on one sheet. 5 6 Press [w] or [r] to select an option. Select Start Image. Press [t]. Press [w] or [r] to select the start image you have set. Press [MENU/OK]. • Only one start image will be saved in the internal memory. • If you select a new photo as a start image or reset your camera, the current image will be deleted.
Viewing files on a TV Play back photos or videos by connecting your camera to a TV using the provided A/V cable. 1 Select a video signal output according to your country or region. (p. 80) 2 3 Turn off your camera and TV. 4 Turn on your TV and select the video output mode using the TV remote control. 5 Turn on your camera and press [y]. 6 View photos or play videos using the buttons on your camera. • Digital noise may occur or part of an image may not appear on some TVs.
Printing photos with a photo printer Print photos with a PictBridge-compatible printer by connecting your camera directly to the printer. 1 With the printer on, connect your camera with the USB cable. Using Multimedia mode In Multimedia mode, you can listen to MP3s, play videos, or view text files. Before using Multimedia mode, you should transfer files to your camera or memory card.
