Here are some key features found on the front of your device. • Front camera: Take pictures and record videos of yourself. • Infrared transmitter: Controls external devices using infrared transmissions. • Power key: Press and hold to turn the device on or off. Press to lock or wake up the screen. Press and hold to turn the device off or restart it, or for quick access to Airplane Mode. • Back: Tap to return to the previous screen, or to close a dialog box, menu, or keyboard.

Here are some key features found on the back of your device. • • • Rear camera: Take pictures and record videos. Speaker: Plays music and other sounds. Getting Started 5 • microSD card slot: Install an optional memory card (not included) for storage of files. • • SIM card slot: Install your SIM card here. • Headset jack: Connect an optional headset (not included).
Assemble Your Device This section helps you to assemble your device. Install the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card. During activation, your SIM card is loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, available optional services, and other features. 1. With the tablet’s screen facing up, locate and open the SIM card slot cover. Warning: Please be careful when handling the SIM card to avoid damaging it.
Install a Memory Card 1. Insert the USB cable into the port. You can install an optional microSD or microSDHC memory card (not included) to expand available memory space. Note: A memory card can be installed at any time; it is not necessary to install it prior to using the device. For more information on installing a memory card, see “Install a Memory Card” on page 109. Charge the Battery 2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard AC power outlet.
When to Charge the Battery When the battery is low and only a few minutes of operation remain, the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals. In this condition, your device conserves its remaining battery power by dimming the screen. When the battery level becomes too low, the device automatically turns off. ► For a quick check of your battery level, view the battery charge indicator located in the upper-right corner of your device’s display. A solid color ( ) indicates a full charge.
Set Up Your Device Turn Your Device On or Off Lock the Device Turn the Device On By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out. ► Press and hold the Power key until the device starts up. To lock the device: ► Press the Power key. Turn the Device Off Unlock the Device 1. Press and hold the Power key until the device options menu displays. The default screen lock on your device is Swipe. 2. Tap Power off. To unlock your device: 3. On the window that displays, tap POWER OFF.
Set Up Accounts on Your Device Google Account Samsung Account Your new device uses your Google Account to fully utilize its Android features, including Gmail, Google Hangouts, and the Google Play store. Create a Samsung account, for access to Samsung content and apps on your device. When you turn on your device for the first time, set up your existing Samsung account or create a new Samsung account.
Know Your Device This section outlines some key features of your device and describes the screen and icons as they appear when the device is in use. Learn how to navigate the device and how to use special features of this device. Warning: Please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a capacitive stylus. Using excessive force or a metallic object when pressing on the touch screen may damage the tempered glass surface and void the warranty.

Here are some features of the Home screen. • Status bar: Displays device status icons (right) and notification icons (left). • Apps screen: Allows quick access to all of your applications. • Status icons: Display information about the device, such as the network signal strength, battery level, the time, and more. • Home screen indicator: Indicates which Home screen is presently displayed. • App shortcuts: Shortcuts to your favorite applications.
The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. 2. Use these options to manage screens: Customize your Home screen by adding application shortcuts, widgets, folders, and using wallpapers. Manage Home Screens • Add a screen: Swipe to the end of the screens, and then tap Add. • Remove a screen: Touch and hold a screen, and then drag it to Delete. • Set a screen as the main Home screen: Tap Main Home screen at the top of a screen. This screen displays when you press the Home key.
Change the Wallpaper Add a Widget to a Home Screen Change the look of the Home and Lock screens with wallpaper. You can display a favorite picture or choose from preloaded wallpapers. 1. From a Home screen, pinch the screen or touch and hold Recent. – or – 1. From a Home screen, pinch the screen or touch and hold Recent. Touch and hold an empty space on the screen. 2. Tap Widgets. – or – 3. Touch and hold a widget, drag it to a Home screen, and release it.
App Shortcuts Folders You can use app shortcuts to launch an app from any Home screen. Place folders on a Home screen to organize items. Create a Folder on a Home Screen Add a Shortcut to a Home Screen 1. From a Home screen, tap 1. From a Home screen, touch and hold an app shortcut. Apps. 2. Drag the shortcut onto release. 2. Add a Folder to a Home Screen 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps. 2. Touch and hold a folder, drag it to a Home screen, and release it. Use Folders • Tap a folder to open it and access the shortcuts inside. • To add shortcuts to a folder, touch and hold the shortcut, and then drag it onto the folder and release. • Tap More options to change the folder’s color scheme. Remove a Folder 1. Touch and hold a folder to release it. 2. Drag the icon to Delete and release it.
Touchscreen Navigation Tap Swipe or Slide Lightly tap items to select or launch them. To swipe, lightly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen. • Tap the onscreen keyboard to enter characters or text. • • Tap an item to select it. • • Tap an app icon to launch the application. To drag, touch and hold an item, and then move it to a new location. Activate onscreen items by a touch and hold gesture. Touch and hold a widget on the home screen to move it.
Pinch and Spread Pinch the screen using your thumb and forefinger, or spread by moving your fingers apart. • Zoom in or out while viewing a picture or a Web page. • Zoom in or out while taking a picture. Motions Control your device by making specific gestures with your hand above the device’s screen. Enable Motions ► From a Home screen, tap Motions and gestures. Apps > Settings > For details, see “Motions and Gestures” on page 134.
Status Bar The Status bar at the top of the Home screen provides device information (such as network status, battery charge, and time) on the right side and notification alerts on the left. Status Icons 4G LTE active: The device is connected to a 4G LTE wireless network. Signal strength: Signal strength indicator. Wi-Fi active: Wi-Fi is active. Nearby devices enabled: The Nearby devices setting is enabled. Status Icons Battery full: Battery is fully charged. Battery low: Battery is low.
Notification Icons New email: New email has arrived. New Gmail: New Gmail has arrived. File download in progress: Download of a file or app is in progress. File upload in progress: File is being uploaded or sent. Location services active: Location service (GPS) is active. App updates available: App updates are available from the Google Play store. App updates complete: App installation or updates are complete. Keyboard in use: Keyboard is in use.
Notification Panel Notification icons on the Status bar display calendar events, device status, and more. For details, open the Notification panel.
• • Settings: Tap to open the Settings screen. • • Clear notifications: Tap to clear all notifications. • Screen brightness: Drag the slider to adjust screen brightness. • Quick settings: Tap to quickly enable or disable a feature. Swipe to the left to see more settings. • Manage users: Tap to manage user profiles. View the Notification Panel Edit Notification panel: Tap to change settings for the Notification panel, including which Quick settings buttons are visible. 1.
Notification Panel Settings To customize the Notification panel: ► From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Display > Notification panel. For more information, see “Notification Panel” on page 103.
Multi Window Multitask by using multiple applications at the same time.
Use Multi Window Window Controls Use Multi Window to run multiple apps at the same time. Select an application window and tap Control in the middle of the window to display the window controls. Note: Only apps located on the Multi Window tray can be used together. Additional Multi Window apps are available from the Google Play store. 1. Touch and hold Window tray. • Control Buttons Switch windows: Switch the positions of two Multi Window applications.
Customize Multi Window You can customize Multi Window to suit your preferences. 1. Touch and hold Multi window tray. 2. Tap Back to display the Tray controls > Edit for options: • To remove an app from the tray, tap and drag it off of the tray and place it in the storage area. • To add an app to the tray, tap and drag it from the storage area to the tray. • To relocate an app, tap and drag it to a new location.
Enter Text Use the Samsung Keyboard Special Keys Type your text input using a QWERTY keyboard. Predicted text suggests words based on your typing. Symbols: Tap to insert numbers and symbols. Predictive text Touch and hold the Options key to: Voice typing mode: Use Google voice typing. Handwriting mode: Use your handwriting to enter text. Clipboard: Access the clipboard. Keyboard settings: Access keyboard settings. Options Insert emoji: Insert an emoji at the cursor position.
Use Google Voice Typing Note: The available Options keys depend on the application in use. Not all options are available for all apps. Instead of typing, enter text by speaking. Predictive Text Predictive text suggest words matching your text entries, and, optionally, completes common words automatically. Predictive text can learn your personal writing style from your contacts, messages, email, and social networking sites — improving its accuracy of predicting your text entries.
Configure Google Voice Typing Enable Swype To customize Google voice typing: To enable the Swype keyboard while entering text: 1. From a Home screen, tap Language and input. Apps > Settings > 1. Touch the top of the screen and swipe downward to display the Notification panel. 2. Tap Google voice typing for options. 2. Tap Select keyboard. 3. Tap Swype.
Applications The Apps screen displays all applications installed on your device, both preloaded apps and apps you download and install yourself. Learn how to change the way apps appear, organize apps into folders, and uninstall or disable apps.
Apps Screen Access Applications 1. From a Home screen, tap Uninstall or Disable Apps Apps. You can uninstall or disable apps you download and install. Preloaded apps cannot be uninstalled. 2. Tap an application’s icon to launch it. 1. From a Home screen, tap 3. To return to the main Home screen, press the Home key. 2. Tap More options > Uninstall/disable apps. Apps that can be uninstalled show Uninstall/disable on their icon. Download and Install New Apps 3.
Organize Your Apps Use Folders to Organize Apps The Apps icons can be organized in folders and listed alphabetically or in your own custom order. 1. From a Home screen, tap 2. Touch and hold an app icon and drag it to Create folder. Change the Order Apps Are Listed 1. From a Home screen, tap 3. Release the app icon to create the folder. Apps. • • • 2. Open, view, rename, and share your Google Docs and files. Gmail Chrome Send and receive email with Gmail, Google’s web-based email. Use Chrome to browse the Internet and bring your open tabs, bookmarks and address bar data from your computer to your tablet. Visit gmail.com to learn more. Visit google.
Google Google Settings Search not only the Internet, but also applications and their contents on the device as well. Quickly and easily change Google app settings to suit your preferences. Note: You must be signed in to the application in which you want to configure. (For example, sign in to Google+ in order to configure Google+ settings.) Google Now Google Now works in the background to collect information you regularly look up and organize it into convenient cards that appear when you need them.
Maps Play Books Use Google Maps to find your current location, get directions, and other location-based information. With Google Play Books, you can find more than 3 million free e-books and hundreds of thousands more to buy in the eBookstore. Visit google.com/maps to learn more. Visit play.google.com/store/books to learn more. Note: You must enable location services to use Maps. For more information, see “Location Settings” on page 118.
Play Movies & TV Play Newsstand Watch movies and TV shows purchased from Google Play. You can stream them instantly, or download them for viewing when you’re not connected to the Internet. You can also view videos saved on your device. Subscribe to your favorite magazines so you can have them available to read on your device at your leisure. YouTube View and upload YouTube videos, right from your device. Visit youtube.com to learn more.
Verizon Applications Mobile Hotspot Enjoy these applications from Verizon Wireless. This is a shortcut to your Mobile Hotspot. For more information, see “Printing” on page 94. Note: Certain applications require a data plan or paid subscription. Visit verizonwireless.com to learn more, or contact your service provider for additional information. My Verizon Mobile Cloud View details and manage your Verizon Wireless account. Use Verizon Cloud to back up and access your data.
Other Applications Appstore There are also other apps, including several Samsung apps, preloaded on your device. Browse and download applications, games and more from the Amazon application store. Amazon Audible Shop at Amazon.com from your device. Download audio books to enjoy on your device. Amazon Kindle Hancom Office Viewer Use the Amazon Kindle application to download books for reading right on your device. You must have an account with Amazon to use the Kindle application.
IMDb Search movies and actors, view trailers and show times, explore top charts and box office information, and add movies and TV to your personal Watch list. Setup Wizard Configure basic settings for your device.
Alarm Alarm The Alarm app offers features for keeping track of time and setting alarms. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Set alarms by using the ALARM tab. Create an Alarm Alarm. Create an alarm event. You can set one-time or recurring alarms, and choose options for how to be notified. 2. Tap a tab to use a feature: • • • • ALARM: Set an alarm to ring at a specific time. 1. From a Home screen, tap WORLD CLOCK: View the time of day or night in other parts of the world.
• Alarm tone: If you have chosen an alarm type that includes sound, choose a sound to play for the alarm. Delete an Alarm • Volume: If you have chosen an alarm type that includes sound, drag the slider to set the volume of the alarm. 2. Tap More options > Delete. • Snooze: Allow snoozing, and set Interval and Repeat values for the alarm while snoozing. 4. Tap • Smart alarm When on, the alarm starts playing a tone at a low volume at an interval before the alarm time, and slowly increases in volume.
Stopwatch Timer The stopwatch lets you time events down to the hundredth of a second. The timer provides a countdown timer for up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. 1. From a Home screen, tap World clock. Apps > 1. From a Home screen, tap World clock. Apps > 2. Tap STOPWATCH. 2. Tap TIMER. 3. Tap START to begin timing. 3. Use the keypad to set the length of the timer. 4. Tap STOP to stop timing. 4. Tap START to begin the timer.
Calculator Additional Functions The Calculator provides basic and advanced arithmetic functions. Basic Operation 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Calculator. • • Tap • To copy all or part of the calculation to the clipboard, touch and hold an entry in the display field. Clear. To clear the calculator history, tap CLEAR HISTORY. 2. Enter the first number using the numeric keys. 3. Tap the appropriate arithmetic function key. 4. Enter the next number. 5. To view the result, tap the Equals key.
Calendar Share an Event Manage your events and tasks. 1. From a Home screen, tap Create an Event or Task 1. From a Home screen, tap 2. Tap Apps > Apps > Calendar. 2. Tap to view an event. 3. Tap More options > Share via, and tap a sharing format. Calendar. Add. 4. Select a sharing method, and follow the prompts. 3. Tap either EVENT or TASK. 4. Enter the details for the event or task. Calendar Settings 5. When finished tap DONE.
Camera and Video You can use the camera or video camera to take and share pictures and videos.
• Expand Quick settings: Tap to show or hide the Quick settings. • Shooting mode: See the current camera shooting mode. • • • • • Record video: Tap to record a video. • • Camera settings: Tap to change camera settings. Take Photos Take photos with your device’s front or back camera, or combine shots with Dual mode. Note: Prior to using the camera, remove the plastic protective covering from the camera lens. Take a picture: Tap to take a picture. 1.
Shooting Modes Camera Settings Several photo effects are available. Some modes are not available when taking self-portraits. 1. From a Home screen, tap 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > 2. Tap MODE and select a shooting mode: Auto: Allow the camera to evaluate the surroundings and determine the ideal mode for the photo. • Beauty face: Enhance facial features automatically when taking pictures. • Sound & shot: Enrich pictures by adding background sounds for a few seconds.
Other Location tag: Attach a GPS location tag to the picture. • • Review pics/videos: Set to show pictures after taking them. • Volume key: Use the Volume key for zoom or to take a picture or video. • • Timer: Use this for delayed time shots. • Brightness: Adjust the brightness level by moving the slider. • Guidelines: Display viewfinder grid lines to help composition when selecting subjects. • Voice control: Set the camera to take photos with voice commands.
Chrome The Google Chrome app allows you to use the Google Chrome web browser on your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Chrome. 2. Read the Google Chrome Terms of Service and tap ACCEPT & CONTINUE. 3. If you have an existing Chrome account, tap ADD AN ACCOUNT to bring your open tabs, bookmarks, and omnibox data from your computer to your tablet. Otherwise tap NO THANKS. 4. Use Google Chrome to surf the Internet.
Contacts Store and manage your contacts with the Contacts app, which can be synchronized with a variety of your existing personal accounts, including Google, Email, Facebook, and your Samsung account. Find a Contact You can search for a contact, or scroll the list to find one by name. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 2. Tap the Search field, and then enter characters to find contacts that match.
Add a Contact - Use the following procedure to add a new contact. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 2. Tap Add contact, and then tap contact fields to enter information. • Tap Contact photo to assign a picture to the new contact. • Enter a name, phone number, email address, and assign the contact to a group. Tap ADD ANOTHER FIELD to add more contact information. - Applications Tap Add to enter additional entries. Tap Remove to remove an entry. Expand for additional fields.
Share a Name Card Unlink Contacts When you share a name card, the contact’s information is sent as a vCard file (.vcf). You can share a vCard via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, attach it to a message, or save it to a storage location. 1. From a Home screen, tap 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > 3. Tap Separate beside contacts to unlink them from the main contact. Contacts. Create a Shortcut to a Contact 3. Choose a sharing method and follow the prompts.
Delete Contacts Favorites You can delete a single contact or choose multiple contacts to delete. When you mark contacts as favorites, they are easily accessible from other apps. Favorites display together on the Favorites tab in Contacts. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 2. Tap a contact to select it, and then tap More options > Delete contacts. Mark Contacts as Favorites 1. From a Home screen, tap 3. Tap the checkbox next to each contact to be deleted, and then tap DONE.
Groups Rename a Group You can use groups to organize your contacts. Your device comes with preloaded groups, and you can create your own. You might create a group for your family, for co-workers, or a team. Groups make it easy to find contacts, and you can send messages to the members of a group. 1. From a Home screen, tap 2. Tap GROUPS, and then tap Apps > 3. Tap More options > Edit group and enter a new name. 4. Tap SAVE. Add Contacts to a Group Contacts. 1. From a Home screen, tap Add.
Send an Email to a Group Delete a Group You can send an email to members of a group. Preset groups, such as Family, cannot be deleted. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 2. Tap GROUPS, and then tap a group. 2. Tap GROUPS. 3. Tap More options > Send email. 3. Tap More options > Delete groups. 4. Tap contacts to select them, or tap the All checkbox at the top of the screen to select all, and then tap DONE.
Contact Settings These settings allow you to modify settings associated with using the Contacts app. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts. 2. Tap More options > Settings. 3. Tap an option and follow the onscreen instructions.
Email Use the Email app to view and manage all your email accounts in one application. The device communicates with the appropriate server to set up your account and synchronize your email. When complete, your email appears in the Inbox for the account. To access Email: Note: To configure email account settings at any time, tap More options > Settings. Tap the account to display Account settings. ► From a Home screen, tap Apps > Email.
Manage Your Inbox 2. Tap the To field to manually add an email address, or tap Add Recipient to select a recipient from Contacts or Groups. There are several tools available from the Inbox screen. ► From a Home screen, tap Apps > Email. • • Tap a message to read and reply or forward it. • Tap More options for additional message options like sorting, deleting, sharing and more. Tap Search to search for key words in your email inbox.
Remove Email Accounts To remove an Email account: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Email. 2. Tap More options > Settings. 3. Tap the account you want to delete, and then tap REMOVE ACCOUNT. Email Settings Use the Email Settings to configure your Email preferences. Note: Available settings depend on the email provider. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Email. 2. Tap More options > Settings. 3. Tap an option and follow the onscreen instructions. 4. Tap an account to configure specific settings.
Gallery View, edit, and manage pictures and videos. 6. Tap an image or video to view it in full screen mode. Scroll left or right to view the next or previous image or video. Zoom In or Out View Images and Videos Use one of the following methods to zoom in or out on an image: Launching Gallery displays available folders. When another application, such as Email, saves an image, the Download folder is automatically created to contain the image.
Play Videos 1. From a Home screen, tap Edit Images Apps > Gallery. While viewing an image: ► Tap 2. Tap a folder to open it. 3. Tap a video to view it. Note: Videos are indicated by Play. Trim Segments of a Video 1. Select a video, and then tap Trim. 2. Use the sliders at the bottom of the screen to trim the video. Move the left bracket to the desired starting point, move the right bracket to the desired ending point. 3. Tap DONE to save the video.
• Rotate right: Allows you to rotate the photo clockwise 90 degrees. • Crop: To crop the image, touch and drag the crop box or the sides or corners of the crop box to create the crop area, then tap DONE. Tap CANCEL to stop without cropping the photo. • Set as: Assign the photo as a Contact photo or a Home screen, Lock screen, or Home and lock screens wallpaper. • Details: Provides details about the image such as title, type, date created. • Settings: Change the Gallery settings.
Tag Buddy Face Tags Tag buddy automatically tags your photos and videos with the date and time it was taken, and optionally adds the location it was taken (if location services are enabled). Face tags allow you to add a contact name to people in your photos. Using face tags lets you filter your photos by people’s names in the Gallery app and other apps which support face tags. You can view these tags by tapping More options > More info while viewing the photo or video.
• • To manually add a face tag, touch and hold the photo where you want the tag. Move and crop the box if desired, and tap SAVE. Select a contact. Gallery Settings If the contact you select does not currently have a contact photo, you are asked if you would like to use this photo as their contact photo. 1. From a Home screen, tap These settings allow you to modify settings associated with using your Gallery. 2. Tap Apps > Gallery. More options > Settings. 3.
Memo Manage Memos Use the Memo app to write and save notes on your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Memo. 2. Tap a memo entry to open it. 3. To edit a memo, tap the content of the memo. Read Messages Reply to Messages When you receive a message, your device notifies you by displaying the New message icon in the Status bar. Messages you exchange with another person are displayed as conversations in the Messages app, so you can see all the messages in one place. To access a new message: 1. From the Home screen, tap Message+. ► Drag your finger down from the Status bar to display the Notification panel, and then tap the message notification to open the message. 2.
Protect a Message from Deletion Delete Conversations You can delete all the messages you have exchanged with another person. Music Player Listen to your favorite songs with Music Player. Navigate through your music library, play songs, and create customized playlists.

View playlist: Tap to view the current song list being played. • • Shuffle songs: Tap to shuffle the current playlist.
Listen to Music 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Music. 2. Tap a library category at the top of the screen to view your music files. 3. Scroll through the list of songs and tap an entry to begin playback. Note: When you close the Music screen, playback continues in the background, allowing you to listen to music while using other features of your tablet. When music is playing in the background, you can access playback controls from the Notification panel.
My Files Access files stored on your device, including images, videos, songs, and sound clips. Access S Voice 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Apps > S Voice. 2. Speak a command. 3. Tap the microphone icon if the device does not hear you, or to give it another command.
Video Player Play and manage videos stored on your device.
• Change player: Tap to play the video on a connected device. • Rewind: Tap to restart the video or skip to a previous video. Touch and hold to rewind the video. • • • Volume: Adjust the volume. • • View playlist: Tap to view the current video playlist. • • • Screen ratio: Change the screen ratio. Playback position: Drag to skip to another part of the video. Video file name: Name of the video file. • • • Pause/Play: Tap to pause or play the current video.
Access the Video Player 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Change the Video Screen Size Video. You can change the size of the video is several ways during video playback. 2. Scroll through the videos stored on your device. After a few seconds, each video thumbnail begins playing a preview of the clip. 1. From a Home screen, tap 3. World Clock Reorder Cities View the time of day or night in other parts of the world. World Clock displays time in hundreds of different cities, within all 24 time zones around the world. To change the order of the cities that you have added: 1. From a Home screen, tap World clock. 2. Tap Apps > More options > Change order. 3. Touch and hold the grid on an entry and drag the entry to a new position in the list. Add Cities 1. From a Home screen, tap World clock. 4. Touch DONE to change the order.
Settings Configure your device’s connections and settings, add accounts, and customize the home screen, apps, and features.
About Settings • Search for Settings Some options are enabled or disabled by tapping the ON/OFF button to turn the option ON ON or OFF. • For some options, you must tap a field, such as Email address, to display and set options. • Some options are enabled or disabled by tapping a checkbox. When enabled, a checkmark displays. If you are not sure exactly where to find a certain setting, you can use the Setting search feature. 1. From a Home screen, tap 2.
Airplane Mode Airplane mode disconnects your device from all networks and turns off connectivity features such as Wi‑Fi. While in airplane mode, you can use other features, such as playing music, watching videos, or other applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Airplane mode, and then tap ON/OFF to enable or disable the option. Note: You can also control Airplane mode from the Device options menu. Press and hold the Power key, and then tap Airplane mode.
Wi-Fi Settings Wi‑Fi is a term used for certain types of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). Communication requires access to a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Wi-Fi Status Indicators Status bar icons show your current Wi-Fi connection status: Turn Wi-Fi On or Off • When Wi-Fi is connected, active, and communicating with a Wireless Access Point (WAP), displays. • If a Wi-Fi access point is available, but your device is not connected to it, displays.
Scan and Connect to a Wi-Fi Network 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Manually Connect to a Wi-Fi Network Settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap > Wi-Fi. 2. Tap Wi-Fi, and then tap the network you want to connect to. • When you select an open network, you are automatically connected to the network. • Enter a wireless password, if necessary. Bluetooth Turn Bluetooth On or Off Bluetooth is a short‑range communications technology that allows you to connect wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth devices, such as headsets and hands‑free car Bluetooth systems, and Bluetooth‑enabled computers, printers, and wireless devices. 1. Make Your Device Visible to Other Bluetooth Devices Scan for Bluetooth Devices When you want to pair with another Bluetooth device, you can scan for nearby devices that are visible. When you make your device visible, other Bluetooth can find it in a scan and initiate pairing. You can choose the length of time your device remains visible. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > 1. Review Files Received with Bluetooth Change Your Device’s Name Device names are used to identify devices during pairing, and when using Wi-Fi Direct or other Wi-Fi based features. This is the name others use when pairing with your device via Bluetooth. When you receive files from another device via Bluetooth, you can access them from Bluetooth settings. 1. Pair Bluetooth Devices Note: Due to different specifications and features of other Bluetooth-compatible devices, display and operations may be different, and functions such as transfer or exchange may not be possible with all Bluetooth compatible devices. The Bluetooth pairing process allows you to establish trusted connections between your device and another Bluetooth device. Pairing between two Bluetooth devices is a one time process.
Data Usage Monitor your mobile data usage. 3. Tap Note: Your service provider may account for data usage differently. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Data usage for options: • Mobile data: Enable mobile data. You can also control Mobile Data at the Notification panel. • Limit mobile data usage: When enabled, your mobile data connection is disabled when the specified limit is reached. More Networks Mobile Networks The More networks settings allow you to configure a variety of communication settings for your device. You can control your device’s access to networks and mobile data services. Caution: Depending on your service plan, changes you make to mobile networks settings may incur extra charges. Consult Verizon Wireless for information. 1. From a Home screen, tap Printing Apps > Settings. 2. Tap More networks > Printing. 3. Tap a print service and follow the prompts.
• Network mode: Choose a preferred network mode. • Access Point Names: Configure wireless network access. Activate your device’s Mobile Hotspot application to allow other devices to use your device’s Internet connection. • Network operators: Select a network from all available networks, to automatically select a network from your preferred networks. 1. Connect a Device to Your Mobile Hotspot 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > More networks > Mobile Hotspot. 2. Tap ON/OFF to turn Mobile Hotspot on. Use the other device’s Wi-Fi control to connect to your device’s Mobile Hotspot. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > More networks > Mobile Hotspot. 3. Tethering Turn Off Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Automatically Use Tethering to share your device’s Internet connection with a computer that connects to your device with a USB cable or by Bluetooth. Virtual Private Networks (VPN) Edit or Delete a VPN Set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). 1. From a Home screen, tap More networks > VPN. Nearby Devices Screen Mirroring Share your media files with nearby devices via Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, or Mobile Hotspot. Share your device’s screen with another device. To enable Screen Mirroring: Warning: If file sharing is enabled, other devices can access your data. Use this option with care. Apps > 1. From a Home screen, tap More networks > Nearby devices. Sound and Notification Settings Sound Mode Configure the sounds and vibrations used to indicate notifications, screen touches, and other activities. You can switch between sound modes, while preserving the individual sound settings you have made. Note: Sound modes are also available from the Device options menu. Press and hold the Power key, and then choose Mute, Vibrate, or Sound from the Device options menu.
Notification Ringtone Other Sounds Choose a sound for notifications, such as for new messages and event reminders. Set various other sound options. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > 1. From a Home screen, tap Settings. Settings. 2. Tap Sound and notification > Other sounds. 2. Tap Sound and notification > Notification ringtone. 3. Tap the checkbox next to the options under Feedback and Samsung keyboard to indicate whether to enable the sound or vibration. 3.
Do Not Disturb Notifications on Lock Screen This setting allows you to block all notifications and alerts. The options below determine what notifications can make sounds, and during what time periods you want to enter this mode. You can select what notifications, if any, appear on the Lock screen. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Sound and notification > Notifications on lock screen and select an option: Show content, Hide content, or Do not show notifications.
Display Settings Notification Panel Adjust display options and features, including the screen brightness, and more. Customize which Quick setting buttons display on the Notification panel. You can also customize which apps display on the Recommended applications menu on the Notification panel when you perform certain actions, such as plugging in earphones. Wallpaper Change the look of the home and lock screens with wallpaper. You can display a favorite picture or choose from preloaded wallpapers. 1.
Multi Window 3. Set the following options: • Brightness adjustment: Adjust the screen brightness from the Notification panel. • Related apps: Show selected apps on the Notification panel after certain actions, such as connecting earphones. Tap ON/OFF to turn the feature on. • 1. From a Home screen, tap Settings. 3. Tap ON/OFF to enable. The following option is available: • Touch and drag buttons to reorder them. To use the default layout, tap Apps > 2. Tap Display > Multi window.
Brightness Screen Rotation Adjust the screen brightness to suit your surroundings, or to your personal preference. You may also want to adjust screen brightness to conserve battery power. Set the screen to rotate when the device is rotated (landscape or portrait). 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > 1. From a Home screen, tap Settings. Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Display > Auto rotate screen to either enable or disable screen rotation. The checkbox turns green when this feature is enabled. 2.
Daydream Smart Screen The Daydream setting controls what the screen displays when the device is docked (dock not included), or while charging. You can choose to display colors, or display photos stored on your device. Using the front camera to detect your face, the screen does not time out as long as you are facing the screen. 1. Font Size You can change the font size for all text that displays on the screen. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Display > Font size. 3. Tap a size to apply to all text. Show Battery Percentage You can choose to show or hide the battery charge percentage on the Status bar. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Display > Show battery percentage to either enable or disable this feature.
Storage View the device memory and usage, or mount, unmount, or format an optional memory card (not included). To increase available memory: 1. Tap Cached data > OK to clear all cached data for all apps. 2. Tap Miscellaneous files, select unnecessary files (or tap SELECT ALL), and then tap Delete. Device Memory Memory Card (SD Card) View and manage the memory used by the device. 1.
Install a Memory Card Mount a Memory Card You can use a microSD or microSDHC card (not included) to add additional memory space to your device. When you install a memory card (not included), it is automatically mounted (connected to the device) and prepared for use. However, should you unmount the card without removing it from the device, you will need to mount it before it can be accessed. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Remove a Memory Card Format a Memory Card Warning: To prevent damage to information stored on the memory card (not included), unmount the card before removing it from the device. Warning: When formatting an memory card (not included), you will want to backup your music and photo files that are stored on the card because formatting the SD card deletes all the stored data. 1. Power Saving Mode Conserve battery power by automatically adjusting the screen brightness, limiting the performance of the CPU, and other power reduction activities. 1. Tap the following options to create a checkmark and conserve power: • CPU performance: Limit the maximum performance of the CPU. • Screen output: Lower the screen power level. 5.
Battery View how battery power is used for device activities. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Battery for options: • • Tap REFRESH to update the listing. • Battery chart: The battery level displays as a percentage. The amount of time the battery has been used also displays. Tap the chart to view History details. Show battery percentage: Tap the checkbox to display the battery charge percentage next to the battery icon on the Status bar.
Application Manager Memory Usage Use the Application manager to manage the system requirements of your applications. See how memory is being used by Downloaded or Running applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Application manager. You can download and install new applications on your device. Use the Application manager to configure your downloaded and preloaded applications. Settings > 2. Tap DOWNLOADED, SD CARD, RUNNING, or ALL tabs to display memory usage for that category of applications.
Downloaded Displays apps you have downloaded onto your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Application manager. Apps > Settings > 2. Tap DOWNLOADED to view a list of all the downloaded applications on your device. • To switch the order of the DOWNLOADED list, tap More options > Sort by size or Sort by date. • To reset your application preferences, tap More options > Reset app preferences. • To uninstall more than one app, tap More options > Uninstall multiple.
SD Card Running Services Displays apps you have downloaded onto your memory card (not included). View and control services running on your device. 1. From a Home screen, tap Application manager. Apps > 1. From a Home screen, tap Application manager. Settings > To switch the order of the SD CARD list, tap More options > Sort by size or Sort by date. • To reset your application preferences, tap More options > Reset app preferences. (When you Reset app preferences, you do not lose any app data.
Default Applications Set and manage your default applications. 1. From a Home screen, tap Default applications. Apps > Settings > 2. Tap CLEAR to remove a default application.
Users Delete a User or Profile Share this tablet with multiple people by creating User accounts. Users have their own space, which they can customize with their own apps, wallpaper, and settings. Users can also adjust tablet settings like Wi‑Fi which affect everyone. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Users. 3. Tap Delete next to a user profile to delete it. Note: Only the device owner can delete other user accounts.
Location Settings Recent Location Requests Some apps, such as Google maps, may require one or more location services be turned on for full functionality. Apps that have requested your location are listed under Recent location requests. 1. From a Home screen, tap Location. Apps > Settings > 2. Tap ON/OFF to enable Location services. Location Method 1. Location Services Location Sources Google uses Location Reporting to store and use your device’s most recent location data. Google apps, such as Google Maps, can use this data to improve your search results based on places that you have visited. You can save your favorite locations for use with services that require location information. This information can improve your search results and other location-related activities. Note: A Google Account is required in order to use this feature. 1.

All Screen Locks Clock widget options: Set the size of the Clock widget that is displayed on your Home screens and whether to show the date. • Lock instantly with power key: Tap the checkbox to lock the screen when you press the Power key. • Personal message: Create a personal message and display it on the lock screen.
Security Encryption Secure your device and protect your data with Security settings. Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your device each time you power it on or encrypt the data on a memory card (not included) each time it is connected. Device Administration 1. From a Home screen, tap Manage your device administrators and application installation privileges. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2.
Find My Mobile SIM Card Lock Protect your device from loss or theft allowing your device to be locked, tracked, and for your data to be deleted remotely. Lock your SIM card by requiring a PIN. ► To access your device remotely, visit findmymobile.samsung.com. 2. Tap Security > Set up SIM card lock. 1. Security Update Service Credential Storage Automatically receive security updates. Manage your security certificates. Tap Security for options: • Security policy updates: Automatically or manually check for security policy updates.
Advanced Security Settings Protect your device with these advanced security options. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Security for options: • Trust agents: (Only available when a secure screen lock is set.) Set screen lock type to use. • Pin windows: Pin a specific app on your device screen. Follow the onscreen instructions. • Apps with access to usage data: View which applications can access your device’s usage history.
Language and Input Devices Samsung Keyboard Settings Configure your device’s language and input device settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Language and input > Samsung keyboard for the following menus: Set Your Default Language • • Input languages: Select the keyboard language. 3. Select a language from the list. • Key-tap feedback: Configure feedback features for the Samsung keyboard.
Swype Keyboard Settings Google Voice Typing Settings Configure options for using the Swype keyboard. Speak rather than type your text entries using Google voice typing. 1. Mouse/Trackpad Settings Configure settings for using an optional mouse or trackpad (not included). 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Language and input > Pointer speed. 3. Touch and drag the slider to set the speed of the pointer.
Backup and Reset Factory Data Reset Back up your data to Google servers. You can also reset your device to its factory defaults. Return your device to its factory defaults. Factory Reset Protection Adding a Google Account to your device automatically enables the Factory Rest Protection (FRP) security feature. Backup and Restore Enable backup of your information to Google servers. 1.
Reset Your System Settings To reset your device to its factory defaults: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. Reset your system settings back to their defaults. 2. Tap Backup and reset > Factory data reset. Warning: This action returns your device to its factory default settings. This will not affect your downloaded apps, personal data, your security settings, language settings, account settings, or your default application settings. 3.
Accounts Synchronize Accounts Set up and manage accounts, including your Google Account, Samsung account, email, and social networking accounts. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap an account type. 3. Tap an account to view the sync settings for that account. • • Depending on the account, you can choose to synchronize your calendar, contacts, and other types of content. Check individual data items to sync. If you wish to sync manually, tap > Sync now.

Motions and Gestures Control certain device actions by touching the screen with the palm of your hand. 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Motions and gestures. 3. Tap ON/OFF to enable each of the following: • Settings Palm motion: Activate controls that use your hands. - Capture screen: Capture an image of the screen when you sweep your hand left or right across the screen. - Mute/pause: Mute and pause sounds and video by placing your hand on the screen while the screen is on.
Accessories Configure options when using HDMI audio devices (not included) or using a book cover (not included). 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. 2. Tap Accessories for options: • Dock sound: Play a sound when inserting and removing the device from a dock. • Audio output mode: Use the external dock speakers when the device is docked.
Date and Time Settings By default, your device receives date and time information from the wireless network. When you are outside network coverage, you may want to set date and time information manually using the Date and time settings. 1.
