Installation Instructions

2. Installation template included in the shipment can be used to
cut the flooring to the proper size and shape. The template will
reduce the chance of making bad cuts outside the proposed
area for the inlay.
Fasten the template to the flooring. The template can be
fastened with double-sided tape, or by finish nailing into the
field flooring between the floor boards. If nailing, place the
nails between boards, to reduce damage to flooring. If new
flooring is being installed, make sure the template covers the
flooring you have installed.
3. Using a plunge router with a pattern bit with a top bearing, cut
through the existing flooring on the inside of the template in a
clockwise direction, starting with a plunge depth of 1⁄8 to ¼
inch. Ensure that the router bearing rides against the template.
Rout in at least three to four passes at increasing depths to
avoid overheating and damaging the router bit. Continue this
process until the router reaches the subfloor. Harder wood
species may require more passes. The cutting depth of the
router bit teeth is usually ½” and the diameter is ½ to ¾”.
