Installation Instructions

INSTALLATION OF BORDERS
Tools specific to border installation:
Circular saw with a guide and a fine-cutting blade.
Plumb line.
Staples.
The borders are usually installed about 12-18 inches away from the walls or as required by the room layout. A border can outline a limited
functional area within a larger room. See the Medallion installation section above for common tools and techniques.
Most borders repeat the interior pattern design at intervals. This is important when joining a corner block or two sections of borders at an angle
to each other. To maintain visual continuity, calculate the linear runs of the border in appropriate intervals. Starting with the corner blocks (if
used), dry-lay the border and determine the most aesthetic location to make any necessary cuts. Ensure proper orientation of the corner blocks
(if used).
1. In case of installing a new floor, draw the line on the subfloor
where the border will be installed. Use a plumb line to mark a
perfectly straight line.
Install the flooring past the working line of the field (in glue-
down applications, do not spread adhesive past the border
working line). Do not place fasteners within ½ inch of this
working line, to prevent damage to power tools when
completing the following step. lay down the floor with the
planks randomly extending beyond this line towards the wall.
If installing in existing floor, draw two parallel lines to mark a
channel for the border. Cut off the ends of the plank floor using
a circular saw with the special guide secured to the floor. Use a
fine-cutting saw blade. Adjust the blade depth to match the
thickness of the floor. If installing in existing floor, cut two
parallel cuts with the saw to create a channel for the border.
