SECTION 4: First-aid measures
4.1. Description of first aid measures
First-aid measures after inhalation
:
IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Call a POISON
CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
First-aid measures after skin contact
:
IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water. Wash skin with plenty of water. Take off
contaminated clothing. If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.
First-aid measures after eye contact
:
IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present
and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice and attention.
First-aid measures after ingestion
:
IF SWALLOWED: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell. Rinse mouth.
Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects (acute and delayed)
Symptoms/effects
:
The product inhibits cholinesterase resulting in stimulation of the central nervous system, the
parasympathetic nervous system, and the somatic motor nerves.
Symptoms/effects after inhalation
:
Harmful if inhaled.
Chronic symptoms
:
Causes damage to lungs, silicosis through prolonged or repeated exposure via inhalation. May
cause cancer.
4.3. Immediate medical attention and special treatment, if necessary
This product is a N-methyl carbamate and is a cholinesterase inhibitor. CARBARYL is an N-methyl carbamate insecticide which is a cholinesterase
inhibitor. Specific antidote consists of atropine. Narcotics and other sedatives should not be used. Drugs like 2-PAM (pyridine-2-aldoxime methiodide)
are NOT recommended. Treat symptomatically.

Firefighting instructions
:
As an immediate precautionary measure, isolate spill or leak area for at least 50 meters (150
feet) in all directions. Do not allow fire fighting water to escape into waterways or sewers. Do
not use direct stream of water. A direct stream of water may spread fire. Ventilate closed
spaces before entering. Do not breathe gas/fumes/vapor/spray. Keep unauthorized personnel
away.
Protection during firefighting
:
Do not attempt to take action without suitable protective equipment. Self-contained breathing
apparatus. Complete protective clothing.
