3 Installation
3.1 Installation requirements
This chapter lists hardware and software requirements for installation of the MK8000
OPC Server. The list of requirements includes network related components required
for distributed (client/server) configurations.
VMware virtual machines can be used as long as hardware and software requirement
are matched.
MK8000 and MM8000 solutions
MK8000 OPC Server can be installed both as a separate OPC server or integrated in
the MM8000 management system. In the latter case, please refer to the system
requirements in the
MM8000 ICC manual (A6V10062413).
3.1.1 Hardware requirements
Stand-Alone / Server station
 x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) CPU, 2.4 GHz or faster (3.0 GHz for large configurations
over 40,000 points or for x64 CPU)
 2 GB RAM (4 GB for large configurations over 40,000 points or for x64 CPU)
 40 GB free disk space, NTFS (no FAT/FAT32) partition required
 At least 1 parallel or USB port (for hardware key / dongle)
 At least one serial line (if serial connectivity is used)
 100 (or 1000) BaseT Network Card (if network connectivity is used)
FEP station
 x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) CPU, 2.4 GHz or faster
 2 GB RAM
 15 GB free disk space, NTFS (no FAT/FAT32) partition required
 Serial line adapter (if serial connectivity is used)
 100 (or 1000) BaseT Network Card
3.1.2 Network requirements
LAN settings
 System including multiple stations or any type of LAN connection should be
properly configured for TCP/IP connectivity.
 Computer names should follow the Microsoft recommendations (see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909264/
en) and not contain special characters. As
a simple and safe rule, use letters and numbers only.
