3.2 Installation types
3.2.1 Selecting the configuration
The DMS8000 DVD includes various products. The installation options include:
Installation type Meaning Scope
Stand-alone
(MM8000) and
Server Station
(full-featured)
Install all MM8000 software layers as
well as Composer and tools for
configuring MM8000.
 Single-station with configuration
tools.
 MM8000 Server station, with
communication capabilities and
configuration tools, for a
client/server distributed system.
 MM8000 dual Server based on
Marathon virtual server.
Client Station
(MM8000)
Install MM8000 Client layer only. A
networked Stand-alone station will
be required to configure and operate.
Additional operating station that can
connect to one or more Stand-alone
stations in Distributed System(s).
FEP Station
(Front-End
Processor
providing
communication
services)
Install MM8000 communication layer
only. A networked Stand-Alone
station will be required to configure
and operate.
Front-End Processor (FEP) station
providing communication services in
a Distributed System to a Stand-
alone station.
Composer and
Subsystem Tools
Install the Composer configuration
environment with full support of
subsystem tools.
In-house station for configuration
development.
Stand-alone
Station (MK8000)
Install MK8000 software layers as
well as Composer and tools for
configuring MK8000 OPC server.
MK8000 OPC Server station.
Test Client
Station (MK8000)
Install MK8000 test software. OPC client station for testing
MK8000.
NK8000 Station
(MM2000)
Install NK8000 drivers and tools for
special FEP configurations
(MM2000).
MM2000 FEP station.
License station Install the software required to
handle the license key and the
associated PAK code.
This installation type is only required
on the physical PCs supporting a
redundant virtual server based on
Marathon EverRun FT software.
Composer GW
Tools (NK8237)
Install the Composer configuration
environment with limited support of
subsystem tools.
Configuration station for NK8000 as
a 3rd party station gateway, e.g.
NK8237 Modbus Gateway for
FS20/FS720 and STT20.
