3.4.4 Activating the software license
At this point, you need to connect and activate the license key and restart the PC. The
software required for handling the license key is automatically installed with the
MK8000 setup.
In order to manage the MK8000 software license, please note the following
information.
Composer license
MK8000 and the Composer tool software require a license to fully enable their
features. Composer requires a license to enable all its features. Without a valid license,
a basic set of functions is supported for project update and maintenance, including
Backup/Restore, Open, Import/Alignment, and Downloads. MK8000 project download
and NK8000 network units download are also allowed without license.
Without a valid license, a minimum set of functions is supported in Composer to update
and manage existing projects. In fact, the Open, Import/Align, Check license,
Download, Backup and Restore functions are always supported. When a valid license
is present, the Composer tool can modify the configuration of MK8000 projects with no
limitations.
Customer and Service Keys
Licenses can be associated to a specific customer site (Customer Key) or work as
passkey for providing maintenance service on any site (Service Key).
Service Key and Solutions/Products channels
Starting from MP4.20, Composer Service Keys are issued for a specific sales channel:
either Solutions or Products channel. Solutions and Products projects are distinguished
by a specific license type and Service Keys are identified for either of the two channels.
Note that Service Keys issued for the Solution channel work for any project, whereas
Product service keys do not work for Solution projects.
Solutions keys also enable users to change the channel type of a Composer project:
from Solution to Product or vice versa. See the drop-down field in the Summary node
of the top project node.
Product Authorisation Key (PAK)
Customer Keys are associated to PAKs that enable the specific connectivity and
functions required on each site. Service Keys also require a PAK that only includes the
channel (Service or Product) and expiration date. Starting from one month before the
actual expiration, a specific message warns Composer users about the need of
renewing the service key license.
The PAK is printed on the License of Use that came with the hardware key. You can
enter this number using the License Manager software that was installed with the
Composer software.
The license also includes a .REG file which you can use to quickly import the PAK as
described in the
Composer Technical Manual
(A6V10062401).
