Position work under needle and lower presser
bar. Hold needle thread loosely with left hand,
turn hand wheel over and draw bobbin thread
up through fabric. Hold both thread ends and
lower needle into fabric.
Outline opening with running stitches V4" from
edge for reinforcement.
Stitch across opening, moving hoops under need
le at a slight angle, from lower left to upper right.
Keep lines of stitching closely and evenly spaced.
When opening is filled, turn work 90° and con
tinue stitching until darn is completed.
Run machine at moderate speed and control
hoops with a steady continuous movement. Slow
movement of hoops will produce a short stitch;
more rapid movement lengthens the stitch.
Fairly long stitches are best for knit and tricot
fabrics; short stitches are best for cottons and
linens as they approximate weave of fabric.
