6. Installation Instructions
6.1 Introduction
This chapter does not attempt to cover all of the standard practices and codes of
installation. Rather, it emphasizes specific points of consideration and provides
some general rules for qualified personnel. Special safety precautions are
stressed wherever applicable.
6.2 General Considerations
Very Important
The detector should be aimed toward the center of the detection zone and
have a completely unobstructed view of the protected area.
Whenever possible, the detector face should be tilted down at a slight angle
to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt.
Do not start an installation unless all conceivable considerations regarding
detector locations have been taken into account.
To ensure optimal performance and an efficient installation, the following
guidelines should be considered.
a. Spacing and Location
The number of detectors and their locations in the protected area are affected by
the following:
Size of the protected area.
Sensitivity of the detectors.
Obstructed lines of sight.
Cone of view of the detectors.
b. Environment
Dust, snow, rain and oil can reduce the detector's sensitivity and require more
maintenance activities.
