precaution s. Each of th ese topics provides in form ation vital to th e successful
operation an d m ain ten an ce of your radio.
Prevent ive
M aint enance
Th e ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 radios do n ot require a sch eduled preven tive
m ain ten an ce program ; h owever, periodic visual in spection an d clean in g is
recom m en ded.
Inspection Ch eck th at th e extern al surfaces of th e radio are clean , an d th at all extern al
con trols an d switch es are fun ction al. A detailed in spection of th e in terior
electron ic circuitry is n ot n eeded.
Cleaning Th e followin g procedures describe th e recom m en ded clean in g agen ts an d th e
m eth ods to be used wh en clean in g th e extern al surfaces of th e radio. Extern al
surfaces in clude th e h ousin g assem bly an d battery case. Th ese surfaces sh ould
be clean ed wh en ever a periodic visual in spection reveals th e presen ce of
sm udges, grease, an d/or grim e.
Th e on ly recom m en ded agen t for clean in g th e extern al radio surfaces is a 0.5%
solution of a m ild dish wash in g detergen t, such as JOY®, in water.
Cleaning Ext ernal
Plast ic Surfaces
(Th e detergen t-water solution sh ould be applied sparin gly with a stiff, n on -
m etallic, sh ort-bristled brush to work all loose dirt away from th e radio. A soft,
absorben t, lin tless cloth or tissue sh ould be used to rem ove th e solution an d
dry th e radio. Make sure th at n o water rem ain s en trapped n ear th e con n ectors,
cracks, or crevices.
The effects of certain chemicals and their vapors can
have harmful results on certain plastics. Aerosol
sprays, tuner cleaners, and other chemicals should
be avoided.
