Th is section covers perform an ce ch ecks used to verify th e radio m eets
publish ed specication s. Th e recom m en ded test equipm en t listed in th e
previous section approach es th e accuracy of th e m an ufacturin g equipm en t,
with a few exception s. Accuracy of th e equipm en t m ust be m ain tain ed in
com plian ce with th e m an ufacturers recom m en ded calibration sch edule.
Set up Supply voltage can be con n ected from th e battery elim in ator. Th e equipm en t
required for align m en t procedures is con n ected as sh own in th e Radio
Align m en t Test Setup diagram (page 13, Figure 1).
In itial equipm en t con trol settin gs sh ould be as in dicated in th e followin g
table, an d sh ould h old for all align m en t procedures except as n oted in Table 4.
Test M ode
RF Test M ode Wh en th e ASTRO Digital XTS 3000 radio is operatin g in its n orm al
en viron m en t, th e radio's m icrocom puter con trols th e RF ch an n el selection ,
tran sm itter key-up, an d receiver m utin g. However, wh en th e un it is on th e
ben ch for testin g, align m en t, or repair, it is rem oved from its n orm al
en viron m en t. It can n ot receive com m an ds from its system an d, th erefore, th e
in tern al m icrocom puter will n ot key th e tran sm itter n or un m ute th e receiver.
Th is preven ts th e use of n orm al tun e-up procedures. To solve th is problem a
special routin e, called TEST MODE or air test, h as been in corporated in th e
radio.
