12 Before working with the saw
Every time before you work with the saw perform the following checks:
Check that the hand guard (12) is undamaged.
Check that the handles are clean, dry and free from oil and grease.
Check that all parts are correctly tted and undamaged.
Check that the chain catcher is in good condition and undamaged.
Check the chain tension.
Check the oil level. Rell oil if necessary.
Check that the power switch and the start inhibitor are working properly.
Check that the chain brake is working properly.
Important:
Do not use the chain saw if it is damaged or not working properly.
Damaged parts must be repaired or replaced before using the chain saw.
12.1 Checking the chain brake
The chain brake stops the chain immediately in the event of kickback.
1. Put the chain saw on the ground.
2. Start the chain saw.
3. Push the chain brake handle forwards. See Fig. 12 and Fig. 13.
The chain should stop immediately.
12.2 Checking the chain lubrication
Do not use the chain saw without adequate lubrication.
1. Rell oil if necessary.
2. Start the chain saw.
3. Hold the bar about 15 cm over a suitable surface for 15 seconds.
Æ If the chain lubrication is working properly, there are oil splashes on the surface.
