18 Troubleshooting
Problem Possible cause Action
The chain saw will not start. The chain brake handle has
released (handle in front position).
Reset the chain brake handle.
The battery is not correctly
installed.
Check the battery.
The chain and/or bar get hot and
produce smoke.
The oil tank is empty. Fill up with oil.
The oil hole in the bar is blocked. Clear the oil hole and chain slot.
The chain is too tight. Check and slacken the chain.
The sprocket on the bar needs
lubricating.
Lubricate the sprocket on the bar.
The saw does not saw well. The chain is tted backwards. Check the chain and t in the cor-
rect direction of rotation.
The chain is worn. Have the chain sharpened by a
professional.
The chain is dry. Impurities in the oil tank. Empty the oil tank and ll with
new oil.
The ventilation hole in the oil ller
cap is clogged.
Clear the ventilation hole.
Fouling in the bar. Clear and clean the bar.
The chain brake does not trip. Problem with the release mecha-
nism in the chain brake handle.
Allow an authorised service centre
to examine the chain saw.
