Safety This machine meets or exceeds CPS blade safety requirements for walk-behind rotary mowers and the B71.1 specifications of the American National Note: This engine is NOT equipped with a spark arrested muffler. Use or operation of this mower in the State of California Standards Institute, in effect at time of production. However, improper use or maintenance by the operator or owner can result in injury.
D. Do not smoke while refueling. Keep all guards, shields, safety devices, optional grass catcher, optional side discharge chute or discharge tunnel plug in place. Repair or replace damaged parts, including decals. Check all safety devices before each use. Engine, blade and self-propelled drive (self-propelled model) are designed to stop when control bails are released. Ensure control and brake function properly before each use of mower.

Assembly Handle 1. Loosen candle knobs and Sift top handle half in an arc until handle halves are in line and nest together (Fig, 1). Note: Use care to prevent pinching ot stretching of cables. 2. Top handle half EN-6 Discharge Tunnel Plug 1. Make sure engine is turned off. Open discharge door by moving handier rearward (Fig. 2).
3. Lift door larch on door handle (Fig. 3). Push the top of the plug all the way in while moving the door handle rearward. Release the door latch, allowing it to hook over tabs on plug (Fig. 4.
Before Starting Qil with FULL and ADD marks (Fig. 5). If level is Tow, add only enough oil to raise Revel to FULL Initially, crankcase must be filled with 20 cesium nark on dipstick. DO NOT FILL (0.6 liters) of SAE 30 oil. 10W-30 oil may be FULL MARK BECAUSE ENGINE COULEE} substituted if SAE 30 is not available, Use any high BE DAMAGED WHEN STARTED. POUR quality detergent oil having the American Petroleum OIL SLOWLY.
Note: Do not use gasoline that has been stored in an approved container from one season to the next, The Toto Company strongly recommends the use of fresh, clean, UNLEADED regular grade gasoline in Toto gasoline powered products.

Note: If engine fails to start after three (3) pulls, repeat steps 24, 6. Regulate throttle as desired between % (FAST) and (SLOW), Stopping Engine 1. Release control bar. Engine, blade and traction will stop. See your dealer immediately if they do not.

However, the ground speed can be varied by increasing or decreasing the distance between the control bar and the handle, Lower the control bar to slow the mower when making a turn or if mower is moving too fast for you. If you lower the control bar too far, the safety mechanism will engage and the engine, traction and blade will stop. Squeeze the control bar closer to the handle to increase the ground speed.
I POTENTIAL HAZARD * Wet grass or leaves can cause you to slip and contact blade. WHAT CAN HAPPEN * Blade contact can seriously injure you. HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD * Mow only in dry conditions. Set engine speed to fastest position. Maximum horsepower provides best cutting results. Clean clippings or leaves from underside of mower deck after each mowing. Keep engine in good running condition. Cutting and rebutting requires more horsepower. Clean air filter more frequently in dusty and dirty conditions.
Operation Adjusting Cutting Height Each wheel is adjusted individually with a wheel height adjustment lever. Cutting heights are 17, 3" and 3-1/2 inches (25, 38, 51, 64,76 and 89 mm). &\ DANGER POTENTIAL HAZARD ¢ Adjusting height-of-cut levers could bring hands into contact with moving blade, WHAT CAN HAPPEN ¢ Contact with rotating blade can cause serious injury. Air Filter Replace air filter once every season or every 25 hours; replace more frequently under dusty conditions.
Maintenance Change Engine Oil Change engine oil after first 5 hours of operation and after 50 hours of operation or every season. Change of 1 while engine is warm. Spark Plug Use a Champion RITUAL spark plug or equivalent, Correct air gap is 0.030” (0.76 mm), Remove plug after every 100 operating hours or every season and check its condition. 1. The blade will remain balanced if same amount of material is removed from both cutting edges. Note: Blade should not be ground beyond original length from outside ends and no more than 1/8” from original leading edge. IMPORTANT: Check balance of blade by putting it on a blade balance.

Be especially careful to keep kickers free of debris (Fig. 36). Maintenance Washing Method Whenever the underside of the mower requires cleaning, follow this procedure for washing debris out from under deck. 1. Storage To prepare lawn mower for off-season storage perform recommended maintenance procedures. See MAINTENANCE chapter. Store mower in a cool, clean, dry place. WHAT CAN HAPPEN * Vaporized fuel can explode if it comes into contact with open flame.
Storage General 1. Check condition of blade. See Maintenance chapter, Blade section. 2. Tighten all nuts, bolts, and screws. 3. Lubricate the wheels, See Maintenance chapter, Lubrication section. 4.
