Introduction What’s Included The Interface Kit allows you to play music from an iPod® through your vehicle’s radio system. Reading this Owner’s Manual ensures that you will get the most out of your audio experience. This manual explains how to integrate the radio with your iPod using the Interface Kit. Button locations and labeling will differ depending upon your vehicle’s make and model. For new iPods, follow the iPod instructions for loading songs into it before connecting to the radio.
iPod Compatibility Due to the frequency of iPod software updates for the iPod, only the latest versions are fully supported. Check the Apple® website for current software version numbers (http:// www.apple.com/). Software older than what is listed is not supported. iPods with older software versions than what is listed, is not supported by the Interface Kit. To see if your iPod is compatible, see the following list.
Basic Functions Connecting/Disconnecting iPod Resume Play The “Resume Play” feature allows the iPod to play the current musical selection (Play queue) when connecting to the Interface Kit. If the play queue was empty, the Interface Kit plays the entire iPod. When the iPod is properly connected to the interface: • iPod Synchronized: On establishing connection with the iPod, an “accessory attached” symbol will appear as illustrated below.
System Operation Music Plays Under the following conditions, the iPod begins playback automatically. • The ignition switch is in ACC or IGN position. The radio is in SAT mode. • Reconnect the iPod (whether in Play, Pause, Stop or Sleep condition) with ACC ON and in SAT mode. Audio Stops Under the following conditions, the iPod playback stops automatically. • The radio was changed to non-SAT mode (AM, FM, CD etc). The interface begins playback with the last song played on the iPod.
iPod Control - Basic Fast-Forward/Rewind Move quickly through a song by pressing the or button during playback. * The Fast-Forward/Rewind operation has the same behavior as the iPod ‘click wheel’. Press to fast-forward through a song. Press again to stop. Press to rewind a song. Press again to stop. Song Up/Down • TUNE•FILE KNOB Use the Tune•File knob to skip to the next or previous song. Rotate the knob 1 click to the right or left to skip to the next song or previous one respectively.
Scan Press and release the SCAN button to preview 10 seconds of each song on the iPod. When a desired song is heard, press and release the SCAN button (before 10 seconds has been played) to play the entire song. The SCAN function is canceled. In addition, SCAN is also usable within the current “Now Playing” list. If it is selected as described above, while in a “Now Playing” list (Playlist, Album, etc.), then only the songs in that list are scanned.
b. Category Selection Preset 6 [Enter] button is used to make the selection after category browsing. Press the Preset 6 button to select the name of the last item displayed in the selected category (Playlist / Artist / Album / Genre/ Podcast / Audiobook). NOTE: If this is the first search after connecting the iPod, the first item in the selected category is shown. d. Select Songs Preset 6 is used to make a selection when the desired item in the selected category is shown in the radio’s display.
Method 2 (Quick Search) NOTE: I f this is the first search after the iPod is connected, the first item in the list is shown. The user can do a music search in the categories: Playlist, Artist, Album and Podcast. c. Browsing the Items in the Selected Category Presets 1-4 are assigned to each of these 4 categories.
Remote control (Steering Wheel Switches) 2 3 1 The radio system can be operated using the remote control located on the steering wheel.
DISPLAY AND MESSAGES Song Number Song number is assigned to SAT Channel number. Song number can be viewed by pressing the TEXT button if it is not currently being shown in the radio’s display. • When using the rotary Tune knob to skip songs, the song number change is shown in the radio’s display. The song numbers are valid up to 100. Once the song number reaches 100, the next press of the Up/Down button rolls the song number back to 1 although the song itself is number 101.
