8.2. Appropriate engineering controls
Appropriate engineering controls
:
Ensure good ventilation of the w ork station. Emergency eye w ash f ountains and safety showers
should be available in the immediate vicinity of any potential exposure. Remove all sources of
ignition. Do not install these batteries in sealed, unventilated areas. Remove jew elry, rings,
w atches and any other metallic objects w hile w orking on battery. All tools should insulate to
avoid the possibility of shorting connections. DO NOT lay tools on top of the battery. The w ork
area should be equipped w ith the corresponding species and quantity of fire equipment and
leakage emergency equipment
8.3. Individual pr otection measures/Personal protective equipment
Hand protection:
Under normal condition of use and handling no special protection is required for sealed battery. In the event of battery case
breakage, should be w ear appropriate safety gloves
Eye prote ction:
Under normal condition of use and handling no special protection is required for sealed battery. Use appropriate safety glasses
when there is the risk of splash
Sk in and bo dy pr otection:
Under normal condition of use and handling no special protection is required for sealed battery. It is recommended to w ear
appropriate protective clothing w hen the battery case is broken.
Respiratory protection:
If exposure limits are exceeded or irritation is experienced, NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection should be w orn.
Positive-pressure supplied air respirators may be required for high airborne contaminant concentrations. Respiratory protection
must be provided in accordance with current local regulations.
