DETERMINING SLOPE
Before you purchase or gather materials for your project, take the
time to determine the slope of your yard. Stake out the end points
along the perimeter of your fence. Tie a string between the 2 points.
Ensure the line is level and straight. You may need to run 2 lines if
your slope is extra steep, just to get an accurate reading.
4 Options for dealing with sloped ground:
• Grade the slope - invloves cutting, digging, grading the land - costly and time consuming
• Step fencing - follows the slope of the property leaving gaps between the ground and bottom of the fence*
• Rack fencing - follows the slope of the property but does not leave gaps between the ground and fence
• Straight fencing - leaves gaps at bottom between the ground and fence*

STEPPED FENCE
• Best suited for VERY STEEP HILLS. Each section is installed
parallel to the next, following the rise and run of the slope.
• Leaves gaps - not good for containing small animals or
keeping animals out of gardens or landscape.

RACKED FENCE
• Best suited for STEEP HILLS. Does not leave gaps at the
bottom. Good for containing animals
• Conforms to slope
• Requires extra materials - cutting components at angles
will shorten each section adding additional materials
CLÔTURE EN ÉTAGE
• Convient le mieux pour les PENTES RAIDES. Ne laisse pas
d’espace en bas. Convient pour empêcher les animaux
d’entrer ou sortir.

STRAIGHT TOP FENCE
• Best suited for LONG PERIMETER RUNS. Tops are aligned and
looks best for business properties or housing developments
• Leaves gaps - not good for containing small animals or
keeping animals out of gardens or landscape.
CLÔTURE DROITE
• Convient le mieux pour les LONGS PÉRIMÈTRES. Les hauts
sont alignés. Meilleure apparence pour les propriétés
commerciales et les ensembles résidentiels.
• Laisse des espaces – n’empêche pas les petits animaux
