FUEL INJECTION FUEL PUMP TANK UNIT
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
PRECAUTIONS FOR FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE AND PERSONAL INJURY IT IS NECESSARY TO
OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS:
� Perform this repair ONLY in a properly equipped service facility.
� Position the vehicle in a clear, level, well ventilated work area.
� Make sure there are no sources of spark or combustion near the work area.
� Perform work in a no-smoking area, or post no-smoking signs in the area
selected.
� Have readily available a fully functional Class B fire extinguisher of adequate
size (such as a 5 pound CO-2 as a minimum.)
� Disconnect the ground cable from the vehicle’s battery before performing any
operation involving gasoline, gasoline tanks or gasoline lines.
� Allow the vehicle to cool before performing any operation which could
possibly expose gasoline or gasoline vapors to hot parts such as catalytic
converters, hot light bulbs, or similar components.
� Avoid using extension cords or lights which might overheat or cause sparks.
� Avoid inhaling gasoline fumes and prolonged skin contact with gasoline.
Promptly wash any body areas which have been in contact with gasoline.
� Wear approved safety glasses while performing any repairs.
� When raising the vehicles to perform under-vehicle services, use proper hoist-
ing or jacking equipment along with approved safety supports.
� When removing gasoline from a fuel tank use an OSHA approved pump that is
specifically designed for handling gasoline. DO NOT USE any other type of
pump. Gasoline removed from a fuel tank must be stored in approved gasoline
containers.
It is impossible to anticipate all possible risk and conditions under which repairs
may be made to a fuel system. Therefore, in addition to the safety concerns listed,
you are urged to carefully evaluate the hazards involved in such a service
procedure and take whatever further precautions that may be necessary.
WARNING: This rotary fuel injection pump WILL NOT work on
carbureted fuel systems. It is for electronic fuel injection only.
CAUTION: Read these instructions thoroughly from start to finish
before attempting to replace the fuel pump.
MINIMUM TOOL REQUIREMENTS
� Hoist or end lift jack
� OSHA approved safety stands
� OSHA approved fuel transfer pump
� OSHA approved fuel storage containers
� Variety of mechanics hand tools
FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: The words “tank unit” used throughout this instruction sheet
means fuel pump tank unit and fuel level sender assembly.
I PREPARATIONS
A) Relieve fuel system pressure.
NOTE: The fuel system can retain gasoline under pressure for a
considerable period of time. Opening a pressurized line could spray
fuel creating a risk of fire and personal injury.
1) Remove the fuel cap from the tank to relieve any tank
pressure.
2) Locate the Power Distribution Block and remove the Fuel
Pump Relay. Relay locations are described inside the cover of the Power
Distribution Block.
3) With the Fuel Pump Relay removed, crank the engine to bleed
down fuel system pressure. The engine will start and stall several times.
Continue to momentarily crank the engine several more times. Be sure to
turn the ignition switch completely to the off position between cycles. Once
the engine no longer tries to start, the fuel system pressure is relieved.
B) Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery and position it so
it cannot accidentally make contact with the negative (-) battery post during
the fuel pump replacement procedure.
NOTE: Be sure an appropriate fire extinguisher is readily accessible
before continuing with the service procedure.
C) Drain the fuel tank with an OSHA approved gasoline transfer pump.
Place the suction hose of the pump into the fuel tank through the filler neck.
NOTE: Be sure the hose is completely inserted into the tank. All of the
fuel must be drained before trying to remove the fuel tank.
II REMOVE AND REPLACE TANK UNIT
A) Remove the skid plate and any shields that may interfere with
removal of the fuel tank.
B) Remove the fuel filter and vent hoses from the fuel tank.
C) Support the fuel tank and remove the tank retaining straps
D) Lower the fuel tank enough to access the tank unit
E) Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical wiring to the tank unit. Be
sure all other lines and wires are disconnected from the fuel tank before
removing the fuel tank from the vehicle.
F) Carefully lower the fuel tank out of the vehicle.
G) Remove the tank unit retaining ring by using the appropriate special
tool or other appropriate methods. Rotate the ring counterclockwise. Be
very careful to not cause sparks during the retaining ring removal pro-
cedure as a fire or an explosion could result.
WARNING: HAVE ABSORBENT SHOP TOWELS READILY AVAILABLE
WHEN REMOVING THE TANK UNIT. SOME FUEL WILL SPILL WHEN
THE TANK UNIT IS REMOVED.
H) Clean any debris or foreign material from around the tank unit area
of the fuel tank.
I) Note the orientation of the tank unit locating arrow. Remove the
tank unit and tank seal from the fuel tank.
J) Check the inside of the fuel tank for foreign debris and clean out the
tank if necessary.
K) Place the new tank seal onto the fuel tank. Carefully insert the new
tank unit into the fuel tank. Be sure not to bend the level sender float arm
when placing the tank unit into the tank.

Note the direction of the fuel out tube!
I) Remove the module assembly flange bolts.
J) Check the inside of the fuel tank for foreign debris and clean out the
tank if necessary.
K) Pull the Tank Unit assembly flange up and out of the fuel tank until
the locking tabs are accessible. Reach through the opening and squeeze
the locking tabs together and remove the module from the tank by lifting up
and out. See Fig. 1

INSTRUCTIONS DE REMPLACEMENT DE POMPE À CARBURANT
REMARQUE : Les mots “support de pompe” utilisés dans ces instructions
signifient pompe à carburant, support et capteur de niveau de carburant (le
cas échéant).
I PRÉPARATIONS
A) Relâchez la pression du circuit de carburant.
REMARQUE: Le circuit de carburant peut conserver l’essence sous pres-
sion pendant une période considérable. Ouvrir ue conduite sous pression
peut pulvériser du carburant et créer un risque d’incendie et de blessure.
1) Repérez le bloc de distribution d’alimentation et déposez le relais
de pompe à carburant. Les emplacements du relais sont décritz à l’intérieur du
capot du bloc de distribution d’alimentation et dans la brochure du propriétaire.
2) Déposez le bouchon de carburant du réservoir pour relâcher la
pression du réservoir.
3) Avec le relais de pompe à carburant déposé, démarrez le moteur
pour purger la pression du circuit de carburant. Le moteur démarre et cale
plusieurs fois. Continuez de démarrer momentanément le moteur plusieurs fois
de plus. Assurez-vous de tourner complètement le contact sur la position arrêt
entre les cycles. Lorsque le moteur n’essaie plus de démarrer, la pression du cir-
cuit de carburant est relâchée.
B) Déconnecter le câble négatif (-) de la batterie et le positionner de
manière à ce qu’il ne puisse pas entrer accidnetellement en contact avec la
borne négative (-) de la batterie pendant le remplacement de la pompe à carbu-
rant.
REMARQUE : S’assurer d’avoir un extincteur approprié accessible avant de
continuer la procédure d’entretien.
C) Vidanger le réservoir de carburant avec une pompe de transfert
d’essence homologuée OSHA. Placer le tuyau d’aspiration de la pompe de trans-
fert dans le réservoir de carburant par le col de remplissage. S’assurer d’avoir un
container approprié pour recueillir le carburant de vidange.
REMARQUE : S’assurer que le flexible soit complètement insérè dans le
réservoir.Tout le carburant doit être vidangé avant d’essayer de déposer le
rèservoir de carburant.
II DÉPOSE ET REMPLACEMENT DE LA POMPE DU RÉSERVOIR
A) Enlever la plaque de protection et autres écrans qui peuvent nuire la
dépose du réservoir à carburant.
B) Enlever le tuyau de remplissage et les tuyaux d’évent du réservoir à car-
burant
C) Soutenir le réservoir à carburant et enlever ses courroies de retenue.
D) Abaisser suffisamment le réservoir à carburant pour avoir accès à sa
pompe.
E) Déconnecter la tuyauterie à carburant et le câblage électrique pour
avoir accès à la pompe. S’assurer que toute la tuyauterie et tous les câbles sont
débranchés du réservoir à carburant avant de le déposer du véhicule.
F) Abaisser avec précaution le réservoir hors du véhicule.
G) Déposer la bague de retenue de la pompe en utilisant un outil spécial
ou d’autres méthodes appropriées. Faire tourner la bague dans le sens antiho-
raire. Prendre soin de ne pas pr
ovoquer d’étincelles pendant la dépose de
la bague, ce qui pourrait provoquer un incendie ou une explosion.
AVERTISSEMENT : TOUJOURS AVOIR À PORTÉE DE MAIN DES SERVI-
ETTES D’ATELIER ABSORBANTES LORS DE LA DÉPOSE DE LA POMPE
DU RÉSERVOIR. UN PEU DE CARBURANT SE RÉPENDRA LORS DE SA
DÉPOSE.
H) Nettoyer tous les débris et les corps étrangers autour de la pompe du
réservoir.
I) Noter de l’orientation de la flèche de repérage de la pompe. Déposer la
pompe et le joint d’étanchéité du réservoir à carburant.

REMARQUE: Cette pompe à essence peut sembler différente de celle de l’O.E. Cette pompe de rechange respecte toutes les
spécifications éstablies par le fabricant O.E. Elle s’ajustera et fonctionnera correctement si toutes les procédures d’installa-
tion décrites dans ce feuillet d’instructions sont suivies.
POUR RÉDUIRE LES RISQUES D’INCENDIE ET D’ACCIDENTS DE PERSONNES
IL EST INDISPENSABLE D’OBSERVER LES PRÉCAUTIONS SUIVANTES:
� Effectuez la réparation UNIQUEMENT dans un atelier correctement équipé.
� Mettez le véhicule dans un endroit dégagé, de niveau et bien aéré.
� Assurez-vous qu’aucune source d’étincelles ou de cmbustion ne se trouve à
proximité.
� Exécutez la réparation dans un endroit où il est interdit de fumer, ou bien posez
des affiches “Défense de fumer’ dans le local choisi.
� Ayez à portée de la main un extincteur d’incendie de Classe B en bon état de
marche et de capacité convenable (au minimum un extincteur au C02 de 2,5 kg
[5 livres]).
� Avant toute opération concernant l’essence ou les réservoirs et les canalisa-
tions d’essence, débranchez le câble de masse de la batterie du véhicule.
� Laissez refroidir le véhicule avant d’effectuer toute opération qui risquerait
d’amener de l’essence ou des vapeurs d’essence en contact avec des piéces
chaudes, telles que pots catalytiques, ampoules électriques chaudes, ou autres
composants semblables.
� Évitez d’utiliser des cordons prolongateurs ou des lampes susceptibles de
surchauffer ou de produire des étincelles.
� Évitez de respirer les vapeurs d’essence et évitez tout contact de l’essence
avec la peau. Si vous renversez de l’essence sur vous, lavez immédiatement tous
les endroits affectés.

Pour effectuer des réparation, mettez des lunettes de sécurité de type homologué.
� Si vous devez faire des réparations sous le véhicule, utilisez un matérial de
levage (palan ou vérin) correct ainsi que des tréteaux de sécurité homologués.
� Pour vidanger un réservoir d’essence, utilisez une pompe de sécurité
homologuée par un organisme d’hygiène et de sécurité du travail (tel que l’OSHA
aux Etats-Unis) et spécialement conçue pour pomper de l’essence, À
L’EXCLUSION de tous les autres types de pompe. L’essence vidangée doit Étre
mise dans des bidons à essence homologues.
II est impossible de prévoir tous les risques et toutes les conditions dans
lesquelles la réparation d’un circuit d’essence peut s’effectuer. Par conséquent,
en plus des considérations de sécurité ci-dessus, il est fortement recommandé
d’évaluer tous les risques que présente la réparation à effectuer et de prendre
toutes les précautions supplémentaires qui s’imposent.

NECESARIO OBSERVAR LAS SIGUIENTES PRECAUCIONES:
� Realice esta reparación SOLAMENTE en un taller de servicio adecuadamente
equipado.
� Coloque el vehículo en una àrea de trabajo despejada, plana y bien ventilada.
� Asegúrese que no haya fuentes de chispas o combustión cerca del àrea de
trabajo.
� Realice el trabajo en una àrea donde se prohíbe fumar, o de lo contrario
coloque carteles a tal efecto en la àrea elegida.
� Tenga siempre a mano un extinguidor de incendios clase B en condiciones de
trabajo de un tamaño adecuado (tal como uno de mínimo de 5 libras Co-2).
� Desconecte el cable de tierra de la batería del vehículo antes de realizar ningu-
na operación que involucre tanques de gasolina o líneas de gasolina.
� Permita que el vehículo se enfríe antes de realizar cualquier operación que
podría exponer gasolina o vapores de gasolina a las partes calientes tales como
convertidores catalíticos, lámparas calientes, o componentes similares.
� Evite el uso de cables de extensión o lámparas que pudieran recalentarse o
causar chispas.
� Evite inhalación de vapores de gasolina y contacto prolongado con la piel con

contacto con gasolina.

Cuando se quita la gasolina del tanque de combustible use una bomba aproba-
da por OSHA la cual ha sido especificamente diseñada para el manejo de gasoli-
na. NO USE OTRO TIOPO DE BOMBA. La gasolina que se quita del tanque de
combustible se debe de almacenar en contenedores aprobados para gasolina.
Es imposible anticipar todos los riesgos y condiciones bajo los cuales se pueden
realizar raparaciones a un sistema de combustible. Por lo tanto, además de lo arri-
ba expuesto se le ruega que cuidadosamente evalúe los pedidos inherentes a cada
procedimiento y tome cualquier precaución adicional que sea necesaria.
ADVERTENCIA: La bomba de inyección de combustible rotativa NO
funcionará en los sistemas de combustible carburado y se usa
exclusivamente para la inyección de combustible electrónica.
PRECAUCION: Antes de reemplazar la bomba de combustible, lea
estas instrucciones completamente desde el principio hasta el final.

NSTRUCCIONES PARA EL REEMPLAZO DE LA BOMBA
DE COMBUSTIBLE
NOTA: Las palabras “soporte de bomba” que se usan en estas instruc-
ciones se refieren a la bomba de combustible, su soporte y conjunto
emisor de nivel de combustible (de estar así equipado).
I PREPARATIVOS
A) Alivie la presión del sistema de combustible.
NOTA: El sistema de combustible podrá retener gasolina bajo presión
durante un período de tiempo considerable. El abrir una línea
presurizada podrá rociar combustible, ocasionando de esta manera
riesgos de incendios y lesiones personales.
1) Localice el Bioque de Distrbución de Potencia quite el Relé de
Bomba de Combustible. Las ubicaciones del relé se describen dentro de la
cubierta del Bloque de Distrbución de Potencia.
2) Remueva la tapa del tanque de combustible para aliviar
cualquier presión existente.
3) Después de quitar el relé de bomba de combustible, haga
girar el motor para purgar la presión del sistema de combustible. El motor
se pondrá en marcha y se detendrá varias veces. Continúe hacienda girar
momentáneamente el motor varias veces más. Asegúrese de girar
completamente el switch de encendido a la posición de desconectado entre
los ciclos. Una vez que el motor no trate de arrancar más, la presión del sis-
tem de combustible estará aliviada.
B) Desconecte el cable negativo (-) de la batería y colóquelo de modo
tal que no haga contacto accidentalmente con el borne negativo (-) de la
batería durante el procedimiento de reemplazo de la bomba de com-
bustible.
NOTA: Antes de continuar con el procedimiento de servicio, asegúrese de
que se encuentre a mano un extintor de incendio apropiado.
C) Drene el tanque de combustible con una bomba de transferencia de
gasolina aprobada por OSHA. Coloque la manguera de succión de la bomba de
transferencia en el tanque de combustible por medio del cuello de rellenador.
NOTA: Asegúrese de que el manguera esté totalmente insertada en el
tanque. El combustible deberá ser drenado completamente antes de la
remoción del tanque de combustible.
II REMOCIÓN Y REEMPLAZO DEL TANQUE DE COMBUSTIBLE
A) Quite la placa de resbalamiento y cualquier protector que puedan
interferir con la remoción del tanque de combustible.
B) Quite las mangueras de ventilación y rellenador de combustible del
tanque.

H) Nettoyer les débris ou les matériaux étrangers autour de la zone de
pompe de réservoir sur le réservoir de carburant. Remarquez la direction du

I) Déposer les boulons de la flasque du module.
J) Vérifier que l’intérieur du réservoir de carburant soit dépourvu de corps
étrangers et nettoyer le réservoir le cas échéant.
K) Tirer la flasque du réservoir vers le haut et vers l’extérieur du réservoir
de carburant jusqu’à ce que les attaches de verrouillage soient accessibles.
Accéder par l’ouverture et presser les attaches de verrouillage ensemble pour
déposer le module du réservoir de carburant en le soulevant vers l’extérieur. Voir
la Fig. 1.

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
PRECAUTIONS FOR FUEL SYSTEM SERVICE
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE AND PERSONAL INJURY IT IS NECESSARY TO
OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS:
� Perform this repair ONLY in a properly equipped service facility.
� Position the vehicle in a clear, level, well ventilated work area.
� Make sure there are no sources of spark or combustion near the work area.
� Perform work in a no-smoking area, or post no-smoking signs in the area
selected.
� Have readily available a fully functional Class B fire extinguisher of adequate
size (such as a 5 pound CO-2 as a minimum.)
� Disconnect the ground cable from the vehicle’s battery before performing any
operation involving gasoline, gasoline tanks or gasoline lines.
� Allow the vehicle to cool before performing any operation which could
possibly expose gasoline or gasoline vapors to hot parts such as catalytic
converters, hot light bulbs, or similar components.
� Avoid using extension cords or lights which might overheat or cause sparks.
� Avoid inhaling gasoline fumes and prolonged skin contact with gasoline.
Promptly wash any body areas which have been in contact with gasoline.
� Wear approved safety glasses while performing any repairs.
� When raising the vehicles to perform under-vehicle services, use proper hoist-
ing or jacking equipment along with approved safety supports.
� When removing gasoline from a fuel tank use an OSHA approved pump that is
specifically designed for handling gasoline. DO NOT USE any other type of
pump. Gasoline removed from a fuel tank must be stored in approved gasoline
containers.
It is impossible to anticipate all possible risk and conditions under which repairs
may be made to a fuel system. Therefore, in addition to the safety concerns listed,
you are urged to carefully evaluate the hazards involved in such a service
procedure and take whatever further precautions that may be necessary.
WARNING: This rotary fuel injection pump WILL NOT work on
carbureted fuel systems. It is for electronic fuel injection only.
CAUTION: Read these instructions thoroughly from start to finish
before attempting to replace the fuel pump.
MINIMUM TOOL REQUIREMENTS
� Hoist or end lift jack
� OSHA approved safety stands
� OSHA approved fuel transfer pump
� OSHA approved fuel storage containers
� Variety of mechanics hand tools
FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: The words “tank unit” used throughout this instruction sheet
means fuel pump tank unit and fuel level sender assembly.
I PREPARATIONS
A) Relieve fuel system pressure.
NOTE: The fuel system can retain gasoline under pressure for a
considerable period of time. Opening a pressurized line could spray
fuel creating a risk of fire and personal injury.
1) Remove the fuel cap from the tank to relieve any tank
pressure.
2) Locate the Power Distribution Block and remove the Fuel
Pump Relay. Relay locations are described inside the cover of the Power
Distribution Block.
3) With the Fuel Pump Relay removed, crank the engine to bleed
down fuel system pressure. The engine will start and stall several times.
Continue to momentarily crank the engine several more times. Be sure to
turn the ignition switch completely to the off position between cycles. Once
the engine no longer tries to start, the fuel system pressure is relieved.
B) Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery and position it so
it cannot accidentally make contact with the negative (-) battery post during
the fuel pump replacement procedure.
NOTE: Be sure an appropriate fire extinguisher is readily accessible
before continuing with the service procedure.
C) Drain the fuel tank with an OSHA approved gasoline transfer pump.
Place the suction hose of the pump into the fuel tank through the filler neck.
NOTE: Be sure the hose is completely inserted into the tank. All of the
fuel must be drained before trying to remove the fuel tank.
II REMOVE AND REPLACE TANK UNIT
A) Remove the skid plate and any shields that may interfere with
removal of the fuel tank.
B) Remove the fuel filter and vent hoses from the fuel tank.
C) Support the fuel tank and remove the tank retaining straps
D) Lower the fuel tank enough to access the tank unit
E) Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical wiring to the tank unit. Be
sure all other lines and wires are disconnected from the fuel tank before
removing the fuel tank from the vehicle.
F) Carefully lower the fuel tank out of the vehicle.
G) Remove the tank unit retaining ring by using the appropriate special
tool or other appropriate methods. Rotate the ring counterclockwise. Be
very careful to not cause sparks during the retaining ring removal pro-
cedure as a fire or an explosion could result.
WARNING: HAVE ABSORBENT SHOP TOWELS READILY AVAILABLE
WHEN REMOVING THE TANK UNIT. SOME FUEL WILL SPILL WHEN
THE TANK UNIT IS REMOVED.
H) Clean any debris or foreign material from around the tank unit area
of the fuel tank.
I) Note the orientation of the tank unit locating arrow. Remove the
tank unit and tank seal from the fuel tank.
J) Check the inside of the fuel tank for foreign debris and clean out the
tank if necessary.
K) Place the new tank seal onto the fuel tank. Carefully insert the new
tank unit into the fuel tank. Be sure not to bend the level sender float arm
when placing the tank unit into the tank.
