46 Truecharge2 Series Battery Charger Owner’s Guide
Using A Generator As Source Power
The Truecharge2 Battery Charger can be run from a regular AC power
source or from an alternate power source such as a generator. Refer to “AC
Input Specifications” on page 54 for AC input current draw to determine
the size of generator you need. Many generators provide output voltage that
is modified sine wave or modified square wave (MSW) rather than the true
sine wave (TSW) that your utility provides.
If a generator needs to run on full load capacity to supply charging current
to the battery via the battery charger, its output frequency and amplitude
may become unstable. This scenario can cause the battery charger to
shutdown. Using the current limiting feature
1
from the remote panel can
help avoid this scenario.
The Truecharge2 Battery Charger may be used with MSW generators but
its lifetime may be reduced somewhat depending on the severity of any
peak voltage overshoots, and the severity of waveshape rise times.
