The Tone Beast is a great mic preamp, with a high gain, which can capture very well and without effort a wide range of sources. With the best Cinemag transformers and multiple discrete paths of the signal, it's hard to beat his big and bold sound at the same price. The Tone Beast is a mic pre that loves to be pushed and when pushed it will color yours always signal softly. The two operational amplifiers and the two output transformers don't seem to be much different, but as soon as the pre is brought into harmonic distortion, the unique character of each of these components becomes evident. Furthermore the Tone Beast is customizable and allows to power and exchange other operational amplifiers unit. The best sounds from this have been obtained pre just at the saturation point (highest gain possible before clipping). Exit control on TB12 allows to limit the output signal from the preamplifier even when pushing gain to levels really high, really giving maximum control.
