FTPES (File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL)
File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/ SSL ( FTPES) is a file t ransfer service t hat uses either TLS
(Transpor t Layer Security) or SSL ( Secure Socket s Layer) for secure transfers across the I nt ernet.
I t requests for a m ut ual m et hod of encryption from t he FTP server for it s file t ransfer sessions. Your
FTP client m ust be set t o use FTPES as in the following exam ple.

Media Server
The m edia ser ver feat ure let s any one on your net w or k play v ideo, m usic, and phot os from t he NAS
(wit hout having t o copy t hem to anot her com put er) . The NAS can function as a DLNA-com pliant
m edia server and/ or an iTunes server. The NAS stream s files t o DLNA-com pliant m edia clients or
com put ers using iTunes. The Digit al Living Net work Alliance ( DLNA) is a group of personal com puter
and elect ronics com panies t hat works t o m ake product s com patible in a hom e network.
iTunes Server
The NAS iTunes server feature let s you use Apple’s iTunes soft ware on a com put er to play m usic
and video files stored on t he NAS. You can download iTunes from www.apple.com .
Download Service
The NAS’s download service downloads files from t he I nternet dir ect ly t o the NAS. You do not have
to download t o your com put er and t hen copy t o t he NAS. This can free up your com put er’s syst em
resources.
The NAS can download using t hese prot ocols.
HTTP: The standard prot ocol for web pages.
FTP: A standard I nt ernet file transfer service.
P2P download: Peer- to-peer files sharing prot ocol.
