Figure 136 Firewall
I deally your firewall should have the following:
• St ateful packet inspect ion t o cont rol access bet ween t he I nt ernet and your network and protect
your NAS ( and com put ers) from hacking at tacks.
• I DP ( I nt rusion Detection and Prevention) t o detect m alicious packet s within norm al net work
traffic and t ake im m ediat e act ion against them .
• Ant i-virus t o check files you download for com put er viruses.
P2P Download and Your Firewall
The ant i-virus feature on a firewall probably cannot check P2P downloads for viruses, so use ant i-
virus soft ware on your com put er t o scan t he NAS for viruses.
When you download using P2P download, m any ot her P2P download users are also trying t o
dow nload t he file from you. The firewall slows t his down because by default , it only allows traffic
from t he I nternet in response t o a request that originat ed on the LAN ( it let s you get files from the
I nt ernet and blocks t hose on the I nt ernet from get ting files from you) .
