Respirators vs. masks
Disaster can strike without warning, especially during wildre season.
So make sure you’re thinking about safety in advance. This overview shows
why respirators help provide more protection than masks when air quality
is compromised. You’ll breathe easier knowing you’re prepared.
Masks are not equipped to provide respiratory protection. Proper
respiratory protection from particles in wildre air comes with the ability to
lter very ne particles — those so small you can’t see them — and provides
a tight seal around your face, when selected and used properly.
Respirators, with a N95 lter, have the ability to lter particulates, while
masks do not. However, N95 respirators CANNOT be used for protection in
wildres against chemical vapors, gases, carbon monoxide, gasoline,
asbestos, lead or low-oxygen environments.
Wildre air
Wearing an N95 disposable respirator outside could help reduce the amount
of airborne particles you breathe. These type of respirators, including 8110S,
8200, 8210, 8210Plus and 8511 respirators from 3M, are intended to t over
the nose and mouth and can lter at least 95 percent of smoke particles
when properly tted.
