Rotary Stage
Design
Four separate, motion stages in fixed positions within the cabinet that allow for
four levels of magnification
Motors Four 800 line/rev NEMA-23 hybrid stepper motor (one per stage)
Circuit
Boards
1. System Board – Communicates to imbedded computer via USB and contains
the RFID.
Microchip dsPIC33FJ256MC710 microprocessor controls rotary stage motor, "X-
ray On" sign, and interlock switches. Located in the electronics cabinet beneath
the stage.
2. Canister Boards (4) – Controls the rotary motion of each stage and contains
an RFID antenna and an Allegro A3984 step motor driver chip. Located each
stage.
3. RFID Board – Implements RFID system and contains a reader card and
adapter card.
4. Filter Wheel Board – Selects from several different filter types automatically.
Located next to the X-ray aperature and has a step motor driver IC and optical
home position sensor.
5. Multiplexor card added for multiple motion stages.
