Step 10:
Verify Connec ons and
Completely Fill Tank
To remove air from the tank and allow
the tank to fi ll completely with water,
follow these steps:
1
Remove the aerator at the
nearest hot water faucet. This
allows debris in plumbing
system to be washed out of the pipes.

Turn the cold water supply
back on and fi ll the tank.

Open a hot water faucet and
allow the water to run un l it
fl ows with a full stream.

Let the water run full stream
for three minutes.

Close the hot water faucet
and replace the aerator.

Check inlet and outlet
connec ons and water pipes
for leaks. Dry pipes connec-
ons so that any drips or leaks will be
apparent. Repair any leaks. Almost all
leaks occur at connec ons and are not
a tank leak.
Step 11:
Install Dra Hood

Install the new dra hood by
aligning the legs and inser ng
them into the slots provided
on top of the water heater. Do not reuse
the dra hood from the old water
heater, but rather use the new one that
came with your new water heater.

Secure the dra hood using
the four screws provided.

vent pipe to the dra hood outlet
using an approved vent adapter (not
supplied).

Secure the vent to the dra
hood with sheet metal screws.
Read the enclosure require-
ments sec on on page 9. Make
sure your home’s ven ng system
complies with the instruc ons in this
manual and is in good condi on.
Step 12:
Gas Conversion
New installa ons only:
Complete Step 12 if you are conver ng
your water heater to use LP (Propane)
Gas. If the gas supplied to your home
is natural gas, skip Step 12 and proceed
to Step 13 on page 20.
This water heater is originally shipped
for use with Natural Gas but can be
converted to LP (Propane) Gas by
following the instruc ons outlined
below.
To convert this water heater, you must
change both the conversion fi ng in
the gas control valve/thermostat AND
manifold/burner assembly (supplied).
Both the gas valve and the manifold
burner assembly must be correct for
the type of gas used. If you are unsure
about conver ng this water heater to
use a diff erent type of gas, contact a
qualifi ed person such as a plumber or
your gas supplier.
WARNING!
• For your safety, the following
procedures should be performed
by a qualifi ed person.
• Do not connect a natural gas water
heater to an LP gas supply.
• Do not connect an LP gas water
heater to a natural gas supply.
• Failure to follow these instruc ons
can result in serious injury or death
from explosion, fi re or carbon
monoxide poisoning.
