Proper operation of HyperSonic
TM
Lithium Ion batteries
Upon receipt, measure the pack voltage and inspect for physical damage that may have occurred
during shipping. If the pack voltage is lower than 3V per cell, or physical damage has occurred,
contact A123Racing for replacement at CustomerSupport@A123Racing.com.
Proper charging procedure
1. The battery pack is shipped about 50% charged. For optimum performance, charge the battery
pack to 100% using a Hypersonic
TM
Sonic Charge
TM
charging system. Hypersonic
TM
packs
may be charged directly through the output (Deans
TM
Ultra Plug
TM
) connector.
2. Plug the balancing connector into the appropriate input on the charger.
3. LEDs on the charger will indicate full state-of-charge when charging is complete. For more
details on charger operation, see Hypersonic
TM
Sonic Charge
TM
charger manual.
4. Pack is ready for use.
Proper operation and discharging in your R/C vehicle
1. Connect the Deans
TM
Ultra Plug
TM
on the battery pack to the vehicles power input
connector. Note: The battery pack balancing connector should not be connected during usage,
only during charging.
2. The pack may be discharged normally no modification of ESC cutoff voltage is necessary.
Standard cutoff voltage is 2V per cell.
3. The maximum allowable battery surface temperature is 71°C (160°F) if this temperature is
reached discharge should be stopped to prevent damage to the battery.
4. If pack is involved in a crash, remove immediately and inspect for leakage or abnormal heating;
if any of these conditions are present, set pack in a safe place and monitor for 15 minutes, then
dispose of in the proper manner.
For optimum long term storage, charge or discharge pack to about 50% state of charge; store in a cool,
dry location.
