Updating your earlier ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 releases to Release 6
ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R5 supports projects created in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 and ABBYY FlexiLayout Studio 10 and will
also work with FlexiLayouts created in the previous version.
Distributed installation
Before updating:
- Stop the Processing Server using the Processing Server Monitor
- Close all the stations, making sure that the background applications FlexiBR.exe, FlexiEx.exe, and ScanStationBR.exe
are no longer running.
To update ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 servers (with the exception of servers installed on Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 com-
puters), you must first install the .NetFramework 4.0 component, which can be found on the installation disk. ABBYY Flexi-
Capture 10 stations still use .NetFramework 3.5 SP1.
Next, update all the components, in any order you like, by running the ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R6 setup program. If you have an
earlier release of ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 installed, the setup program will detect the earlier release, remove the previous version
of the component, and install the new version with the same configuration.
Notes:
You do not need to reinstall the IIS, SQL server, and Crystal Reports components.
However, you may need to re-enable Basic authentication for IIS (if it was enabled, say, for remote stations).
You can continue using your database and File Storage Folder.
Once you have updated the ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 servers, you need to update the ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 database.
To update the database, click the Update to required version link in the Administration and Monitoring Console (Service > Ap-
plication Server).
Next, start the Project Setup Station and open, one by one, all your projects on the Application Server to convert them to the
ABBYY FlexiCapture R6 format.
Once the projects have been converted, start the Processing Server to begin working with ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R6.
Standalone installation
Before updating, close ABBYY FlexiCapture 10, making sure that no background processes (e.g. import, recognition, export) are
running.
To update, simply start the ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R6 setup program. If you have an earlier release of ABBYY FlexiCapture 10
installed, the setup program will detect the earlier release, remove the previous version of the component, and install the new ver-
sion with the same configuration.
When the update is completed, start the Administrator Station and open your project to convert it to the ABBYY FlexiCapture R6
format.
General notes
Please note that after you convert you projects for use in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R6, you will no longer be able to use them in
earlier versions of the program.
ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 R6 uses the same licenses as the previous releases.
Upgrading from ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0
If you are installing ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 as an upgrade from version 9.0 you can use ABBYY FlexiCapture and ABBYY
FlexiLayout projects as well as FlexiLayouts from the previous version.
Using ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 Professional projects (*.fcproj)
All ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 local projects (.fcproj) can be opened and used in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10. Please note the follow-
ing:
- It is impossible to open an .fcproj-project in ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 once it was opened in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10,
so you should create a copy of the project before opening it in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 if you still need to open it in
ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0
- After opening ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 project in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10 you may need to delete all processing re-
sults and analyze all pages once again. (You can use the project without re-recognizing but some information may be
presented improperly, for example if the FlexiCapture 9.0 project contains format errors, they will not be presented in
the document window the same way they are currently presented in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10).
ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 network projects that were loaded on server can also be used in ABBYY FlexiCapture 10.
