Introduction The Control Omni is an advanced remote control system with a built-in mobile phone, adapted for people with disabilities. The Control Omni is controlled by direct touch on screen but it is also possible to connect external switches to use a scanning function. The Control Omni is programmable, which means that it can “learn” IR codes from other remote control units such as those for a TV, DVD or stereo system. Control Omni is equipped with a built-in radio transmitter for environmental control.

It is important that your Control Omni is fully charged before use in order for the battery to receive a maximum capacity. NOTE! The batteries must be charged at regular intervals, once a day. Do not let the batteries run out completely. 3. Start your Control Omni by pressing the stylus on the ON/OFF button (see fig 2).
Settings This section explains how to adjust various settings on your Control Omni. The Control Omni has been designed so that it is possible to adjust the settings simply, without a manual. In addition, help is available at strategic points (Help). You can use the stylus to adjust the settings by pressing the screen, or you can connect one switch and use scanning. This means that users, engineers and others can adjust all the settings, with only a few exceptions.
Activate the mobile phone Your Control Omni has a built-in mobile phone. To make it work it must be equipped with a SIM-card. The SIM-card is not included but must be bought separately. Fig 7 Activate the Mobile phone by using the following procedure: 1. Carefully remove the SIM-card holder using your nail. 2. Insert the SIM-card. Turn it according to the figure. Fig 8 3. Put the SIM-card holder back. 4. Switch off and on the mobile phone by the procedure below. 5. Enter the PIN code.
Scanning Settings Scanning Methods Different scanning methods can be used with your Control Omni. Selections can be made between one or two switches, automatic or manual scanning, row/column or linear scanning, forced scanning or repetition. The default setting selected when your Control Omni is delivered will be automatic linear scanning that is controlled by one switch.
Change the scanning method by using the following procedure: System Scanning Method. Follow the diagram below to select the type of scanning desired. Row/Column (automatic) 1 switch Linear (automatic) Method Row/Column No forcing Linear Automatic scanning Row/Column Forcing Linear 2 switches Row/Column Without repetition Linear Manual scanning Row/Column Repetition Linear Switches Your Control Omni has a port for external switches. The switch is a 3.5 mm jack plug.
Scanning Speed Your Control Omni steps forward with a certain speed when using automatic scanning. This speed can be adjusted between 0.2 and 10 steps/sec. You can test the speed before the choice is finally made, in order to prevent too high a speed being selected by mistake.
Automatic Scanning start The scanning will start automatically when coming to a new page. This can be set to On or Off and applies to all user pages. Change Automatic Scanning Start by using the following procedure: System Scanning More Automatic start Default setting: Off First step delay The time for the first step delay is twice the selected scanning speed. It is possible to turn this off.
Sound Settings The sound can be set individually for different functions on your Control Omni. The sound is divided into 2 main groups, so to say. Sound when making phone calls and sound for system sound. The figure shows different sound units used.
Advanced setting The sound can also be set individually for both the headset and the built-in earphone/built-in microphone. This can only be done by entering advanced setting. Change the sound volume, microphone sensitivity and ring signal by using the following procedure: System Sound setting Phone Advanced or: Phone Sound Volumes Advanced Ring signal features Different features can be selected for the ring signal.
Auditory Feedback Auditory feedback is the sound that is heard when a button is pressed on the screen. The sound may be a recorded sound, such as the word “lamp”, or it may simply be a click. Recorded sound, click sound or silent can be selected. If a recorded sound has been selected but no sound has been recorded, a click sound will be heard instead. Note! It is not possible to have Auditory Feedback while making a call.
Backups and Default settings Making a Backup It is extremely important to make a back-up after you have created various pages and adjusted various settings. The memory card delivered with your Control Omni must be placed into the compartment on the back of the unit before a back-up is made, see fig. 14. Fig 14 If there is a previous backup on the memory card, it will be overwritten. The back-up can be named by selecting “Advanced”.
Managing Pages Adding a Completed Page Fig 15 Your Control Omni is delivered with standard pages that are described in the chapter Brief Demonstration on page 6. An additional 30 completed pages are also included so that you don't have to create pages from scratch. The pages included are suitable for controlling different items that are to be controlled, such as telephone, TV and DVD. Some pages come complete with GewaLink channels and images, other pages have only images.
Removing a Page Your Control Omni is delivered with standard pages. These pages can be removed if you do not want to use them. Personal pages that you have created can also be removed by the same procedure. Remove a page by using the following procedure: Pages/buttons Add/remove a page Remove page browse among the pages Remove page Remove Adding or Removing a Row or Column It is possible to add and remove rows and columns on your Control Omni.
Adding/removing buttons on a row The number of buttons on a row can be changed, e.g. a row might have one button and the next row 4 buttons. Add/remove buttons by using the following procedure: Pages/buttons Select page browse among the pages available Select this page Properties Buttons select add or remove button. Exporting Pages It may sometimes be necessary to be able to copy a page that you have created, such as a page for a TV in one room to a page for a TV in another room.
Copying a Page in your Control Omni to a PC It is sometimes necessary to send a page by e-mail or share it with another user, or just save it for future use. Do as follows to copy a page to a PC. Fig 16 1. Make a backup copy on your Control Omni in order to save the settings, see the section “Making a Back-up”, Page 16. 2. Remove the memory card by pressing and releasing the memit with the stylus. 3.
Managing Buttons Recording IR codes If your Control Omni is to be used to control a TV, for example, or a stereo, DVD, toys, lamps, etc., these devices must have a remote control unit that emits infrared light (IR light). Most TVs have a remote control unit that is used to control various functions. You will need the remote control to teach your Control Omni the IR codes.
Inserting GewaLink channels GewaLink channels are standard channels that are used in all Gewa remote control units and receivers. There are 128 GewaLink channels, numbered from 0-127. These channels do not need to be recorded, they are included with your Control Omni. GewaLink channels must not be mixed up with codes from products that are purchased in other shops, such as TVs and DVD players. These use another type of IR channels, described in the previous section Recording IR Codes.
Creating Macros Your Control Omni can send macros which means that it can emit IR-signals, radio signals and activate a button with recorded sound. Your Control Omni automatically carries out a sequence of operations after one button is pressed. For example, 4 buttons must be pressed in order to reach a page on your TV-menu. You can create a macro from these four button presses. A macro can last for up to 11 seconds. When creating a Macro it is possible to set the time between each button press.
To be able to add GR unit you must understand the vocabulary below: Include GR unit (Include) Include GR unit on Control Omni which shall be able to control. Exclude GR unit (Exclude) Exclude GR unit from Control Omni (is recommended if GR unit is available). Remove GR unit from list Exclude GR unit from the list in Control Omni. Is to be used if GR unit is not available. Switch Multi level A dimmer function with different buttons for different dimmer levels.
Adding GR units To simplify the procedure GR units should be added in various stages. NOTE! If there are any doubts how to proceed we recommend you to read the GR manual which shows in detail how to do. NOTE! If there are any doubts how to proceed we recommend that you read the GR manual which shows in detail how to do this. 1. Start by resetting all GR units by “Excluding GR units”. 2. Add all GR receivers to your Control Omni. 3. Enter functions on each page and button. 4.
Adding buttons for telephone functions It is possible to add buttons to your Control Omni where functions can be easily reached in order to modify telephone functions. The same button can be placed in several different locations.
Adding button for system functions It is possible to add buttons to your Control Omni where functions can be easily reached in order to modify system functions. The same button can be placed in several different locations.
Recording Sound It is possible to record a sound on to your Control Omni, which can be heard when scanning between different buttons and when a button is activated by pressing on the screen. For example, if the function of a button is to switch on the light, your Control Omni can be made to say “Lamp”. A maximum of 10 seconds can be recorded for each button. A built-in microphone or a microphone via headset can be used to record sound, see fig 13, page 13.
Adding Your Own Images It is also possible to use your own images in on your Control Omni. For this a PC is needed. The images to be used should be approximately 100 x 100 pixels, and they should be in PNG-format. Photos taken with a digital camera are far too large to be used, and will cause your Control Omni to work very slowly. This problem can be avoided by reducing the dimensions of the images, using an image processing program.
Adding text to a button It is possible to add text and edit text on a button on your Control Omni. The maximum width of the line of text depends on the size of the button. The maximum number of lines of text depends on the size of the button. It is a good idea to first write the text and then check how it looks on the button. It is also possible to change font size. Tip! Text can be combined with an image.
Setting the Alert function The “Alert” is used when you want to attract somebody’s attention. Your Control Omni can activate the Alert in different ways: Transmit an IR-signal which activates a relay in an IR receiver. Transmit an RF-signal which activates a relay in a radio receiver. Send an SMS with the built-in telephone. Call a telephone number with the built-in telephone. Activate the built-in relay output.
Using an Alert button on screen A button can be put on the screen for the alert function. The button can be placed in any location or in several locations. The image is added at the same time as the function is selected. To choose how to activate Alert see section Setting the Alert function on page 31.
Completed Pages The following completed pages are delivered with your Control Omni. Select a completed page as required and add it using the Settings page. Once a page has been added, it is easy to add or remove functions. Many of the pages already have IR channels set up, for example, for controlling the GewaTel loudspeaker telephone. The GewaLink channels are shown on the pages. IR codes must be recorded from the original remote control unit in order to control other items, such as TV, DVD and CD.
