Terra-cotta tile is clay-based and kiln-fired at about 1,832°F (1,000°C). The iron content
of the clay gives the fired body a yellow, brown, orange, red, pink or gray color, which
varies considerably. Although durable, terra-cotta tile is porous and requires a sealer for
protection.
