11.5 Things the detector is not able to do
The smoke alarm device is designed for use in a small house or apartment block, in an apartment or in an
office. The following restrictions apply:
The smoke alarm device is not able to detect a fire if smoke does not reach the smoke chamber.
Smoke from fires in walls, in lofts, on roofs or on other floors will not reach the detector quickly enough in
order to trigger the alarm in sufficient time to allow the occupants to escape without injury.
Smouldering fires are only detected much later because smoke only rises slowly until the flames catch.
If the detector is covered deliberately, then the smoke will not reach the smoke chamber.
