vii Tips and information for comfortable use Computer users may complain of eyestrain and headaches after prolonged use. Users are also at risk of physical injury after long hours of working in front of a computer. Long work periods, bad posture, poor work habits, stress, inadequate working conditions, personal health and other factors greatly increase the risk of physical injury. Incorrect computer usage may lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis or other musculoskeletal disorders.

Adjust the display brightness and/or contrast to a comfortable level for enhanced text readability and graphics clarity.

1 When using your computer for the first time, it is recommended that you immediately register it. This will give you access to some useful benefits, such as: • Faster service from our trained representatives • Membership in the Acer community: receive promotions and participate in customer surveys • The latest news from Acer Hurry and register, as other advantages await you! How to Register During the initial startup of your notebook or desktop, a window will invite you to register.

The exact configuration of your PC depends on the model purchased. Setting up your computer The AcerSystem is a versatile and powerful system, supporting a mainstream performance CPU.
3 Selecting a location Selecting the optimum location for your computer: • Do not place the system too close to other electrical equipment. • Do not place the system in high-traffic areas or where the power cord or other cords may be stepped on. • Avoid placing the system in any location that is excessively dusty or damp. Opening the package Open the package carefully and keep all packing materials for later use. Ensure that all items are present and in good condition.
English 4 1 Turn on all peripheral equipment, such as the monitor, printer, fax, speakers, etc. 2 Turn on the system. Once the start up process is complete, you can begin to use your computer. Shutting down your computer From the "Start" menu, select "Shut Down" and click OK. In the event of a system crash, press and hold the power button on the front of the system for four seconds. After the system has shut down, turn off all peripheral devices.
5 The first time you use Aspire RevoBoot by clicking on any of the applications available in the boot-up screen, a wizard will guide you through the basic configuration steps. If you click Close, Vista will automatically boot up.
English 6 Each time you switch on your computer, you will see this screen. If you do not move the mouse within 10 seconds, your computer will continue to start up the operating system. Use Aspire RevoBoot Click on any of the icons on the screen or the launch bar, located at the bottom of the screen. Icon Function Turns off the computer immediately. Any changes made during the current session will be saved. Boot to the operating system. Any changes made during the current session will be saved.
7 Function Starts Skype™; you can communicate free-of-charge with other Skype users. USB / removable storage indicator. This icon displays in the launch bar only when a removable storage device/USB drive is inserted into the system. If you want to remove the USB device, right-click on the icon and select Eject USB Disk. Displays the on-line help. Opens the Configuration Panel, where you can adjust various settings.
English 8 The Configuration Panel The Configuration Panel allows you to set: Icon Function Set the date, time and time zone. Right-click on the date/time display to toggle between 12hour (AM/PM) and 24-hour format. Switch input methods/languages on the fly. Set the language used to display menu items, dialog box messages, etc. Specify how your computer connects to the Internet. View the Help Improve Software, Power Management, and General tabs, and adjust settings.
9 RevoBoot Configure: Select whether to use RevoBoot or not. Uninstall: Remove RevoBoot from your computer. English Repair this software: Open the installation program to repair the software if it stops working properly.
English 10 Using the controller and games Please take note of the following to enjoy gaming with your controller: • Check that the controller is switched on and connected with the receiver. • Use the Z controller games icon to play games with the controller. Insert the battery Remove the battery cover and insert two AA alkaline batteries, ensuring they're properly aligned. Click the cover closed.

English 12 Connect the controller and receiver • Make sure the computer power is on and press the power button on the controller. Player LEDs 1 to 4 will each flash once, in order, before the power LED turns blue indicating that the power is on. • Insert the receiver into a USB port and press the SYNC button once. The receiver LED will flash for 6 to 8 seconds until a connection is made. • Press any button on the controller to complete synchronization.
13 Push or Pull: Move the controller forward or backward, toward or away from the screen. • Twist: Move the controller in a twisting motion by rotating your arm. The controller can be held in either the gun or straight mode, switch between modes by gently twisting the controller as illustrated. Do not force the controller to twist. While playing games, make sure to use the wrist strap and maintain a secure grip on the controller.
English 14 Gun mode Twist the controller into the gun mode and hold it using one hand. For details, refer to your game's documentation.
15 Hold the controller, in gun mode, with the hinge facing forward. Move the hinge of the controller up to increase altitude. Move the hinge of the controller down to decrease altitude. Tilt the controller to the left to bank left. Tilt the controller to the right to bank right.
English 16 Racing mode Hold the controller, in gun mode, with the hinge facing up. Turn left Turn right The controller can also be used as a mouse to control your computer. 3D Mouse mode This mode can be used in both straight and gun mode. The 3D mouse mode can be enabled and disabled by pressing Home and Button B simultaneously to switch between the browsing and non-browsing mouse modes.
17 Play games Click the Game icon to view the available games. Make sure the controller is on and connected to the receiver before starting to play games. English Note: The default mode of the controller is the browsing mode. If the cursor goes beyond the borders of the screen, use Button A to move the cursor to the edge of the screen for re-centering.
English 18 Select the language you would like to use. You only need to select the language once. The controller uses two AA batteries. High-quality alkaline batteries or rechargeable NiMH batteries should be used for best performance and battery life.
19 The following questions are possible situations that may arise during the use of your computer and each is followed by easy answers and solutions to the situation. Q: I pressed the power switch but the system did not boot up. A: Check the LED located above the power switch. If the LED is not lit, no power is being applied to the system. Do any of the following: • Check if the voltage selector switch located on the rear panel of the computer is set to the correct voltage.
English English English 20 A: Do the following: • Make sure that the printer is connected to a power outlet and that it is turned on. • Make sure that the printer cable is connected securely to the system's USB port and the corresponding port on the printer. • For additional information concerning the printer, refer to the printer's documentation. Q: No sound comes out from the computer. A: Check the following: • The volume may be muted. Look for the Volume icon on the taskbar.
21 • When unplugging the power cord, do not pull on the cord itself but pull on the plug. The total ampere rating of the equipment plugged in should not exceed the ampere rating of the cord if you are using an extension cord. Also, the total current rating of all equipment plugged into a single wall outlet should not exceed the fuse rating.
