Before cleaning • Turn the product off and unplug it from the wall outlet before cleaning. • Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Location precautions Be sure that the power outlet you plug the power cord into is easily accessible and located as close to the equipment operator as possible.
• Do not overload a power outlet, strip or receptacle by plugging in too many devices. The overall system load must not exceed 80% of the branch circuit rating. If power strips are used, the load should not exceed 80% of the power strip's input rating. • This product's AC adapter is equipped with a three-wire grounded plug. The plug only fits in a grounded power outlet. Make sure the power outlet is properly grounded before inserting the AC adapter plug.
Do not attempt to service this product yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage points or other risks. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel when: • The power cord or plug is damaged, cut or frayed. • Liquid was spilled into the product. • The product was exposed to rain or water. • The product has been dropped or the case has been damaged.
Locations near fire alarms. • • Locations with an ambient temperature above 40º C/104º F. Locations where the altitudes are higher than 10,000 feet. • Do not operate if smoke, a strange noise, or an odor are coming out of the projector. In this case, immediately unplug the projector and contact your dealer. • Do not keep using the projector if it has been dropped or damaged. In this case, contact your dealer for inspection. • Do not face the projector lens to the sun. It can lead to fire.
Do not increase the volume level after your ears have adjusted. • Do not listen to music at high volumes for extended periods. • Do not increase the volume to block out noisy surroundings. • Decrease the volume if you can't hear people speaking near you. Turning the projector on/off Turning the projector on 1 Ensure that the power cord and signal cable are securely connected. The power indicator LED will light blue. 2 Turn on the projector by pressing the POWER button on the control panel. The power indicator LED will flash and then turn blue. 3 Turn on your source (computer, notebook, video player ,etc.). The projector will detect your source automatically.
1 To turn the projector off, press the power button. This message appears: Please press the power button again to complete the shutdown process. Press the power button again. 2 The shutdown process will vary depending on the Turn Off Mode setting. Please refer to "Management" on page 28 for more details. 3 Once the shutdown process finishes, the power indicator LED becomes steady blue. 4 It is now safe to unplug the power cord. Warning messages! • Projector Overheated.
1 Use the elevator foot raise/lower the image to the desired height.
Consult the table below to find the optimal image sizes achievable when the projector is positioned at a desired distance from the screen. Example: If the projector is 3 m from the screen, good image quality is possible for image sizes between 68" and 75". Note: The image will be 148 cm high when the projector is 3 m from the screen.

Installation menu The installation menu provides an onscreen display (OSD) for projector installation and maintenance. Use this OSD only when the message No signal input is displayed on the screen. The menu options include settings and adjustments for screen size and distance, focus, keystone correction and more. 1 Turn on the projector by pressing the POWER button on the control pad. 2 Press the MENU button on the control pad to launch the OSD for projector installation and maintenance.
Acer eView Management The Acer Empowering Key provides access to four Acer-specific functions: Acer eView Management, Acer eTimer Management, Acer ePower Management, and Acer e3D Management. Press the key for more than one second to launch the onscreen display main menu to modify its function. Press to launch the Acer eView Management submenu. Acer eView Management is for display mode selection. Please refer to "Onscreen Display Menus" on page 19 for more details.
Press to launch Acer e3D Management. Acer e3D Management offers quick access to 3D functions. Please refer to "Onscreen Display Menus" on page 19 for more details.
The projector has a multilingual OSD that allows you to make image adjustments and change a variety of settings. Using the OSD menus • To open the OSD menu, press MENU on the remote control. • When the OSD is displayed, use the keys to select any item in the main menu. English 20 Display Mode Wall Color Brightness Contrast Saturation English Color There are many factory presets optimized for various types of image. • Bright: For high brightness environments. • Presentation: Higher brightness for meetings and presentations. • Standard: For normal environments. • Video: For playing video in a bright environment. • Education: For education environment. • Picture: For pictures. • Game: For game content.
Adjusts the color balance of red and green. • Press to increase the amount of green in the image. • Press to increase the amount of red in the image. Dynamic Black Choose On to dim the projector lamp which will automatically detect the brightness level of the content and reduce lamp power consumption (up to 70 percent). Choose Off to turn off Dynamic Black. Advanced Use this function to adjust advanced color settings. • Color Temperature: Adjust the color temperature.
22 English English Image P1223/D413D/EV-X34H X1223/D413/EV-X34 Projection • Front: The factory default setting. • Ceiling: When you select this function, the projector inverts the image for ceiling-mounted projection. • Rear: When you select this function, the projector reverses the image so you can project from behind a translucent screen. • Rear-Ceiling: When you select this function, the projector reverses and inverts the image at same time.
Adjusts the sharpness of the image. • Press to decrease the sharpness. • Press to increase the sharpness. H. Position (horizontal position) • Press to move the image left. • Press to to move the image right. V. Position (vertical position) • Press to move the image down. • Press to move the image up. Frequency Frequency changes the projector's refresh rate to match the frequency of your computer’s graphics card.
24 English English Setting Menu Location Choose the menu location on the display screen. Startup Screen Use this function to select your desired startup screen. If you change the setting, the changes will take effect when you exit the OSD menu. • Acer: The default Acer projector startup screen. • User: Use a customized picture from the screen capture function.
Use this function to customize the startup screen. To capture the image that you want to use as the startup screen, follow the instructions below. Note: Before proceeding with the following steps, make sure that the Keystone is set to the default value 0 and the aspect ratio is set to 4:3. For details, refer to "Image" on page 22. • Change the Startup Screen from the default setting (Acer) to User. • Press Screen Capture to customize the startup screen.
Security This projector is equipped with a useful security function for the administrator to manage projector use. Press to change the Security setting. If the security function is enabled, your must enter the Administrator Password first before changing the security settings. • Select On to enable the security function. The user has to enter a password to operate the projector. Please refer to the User Password section for details.
The Administrator Password can be used in both the Enter Administrator Password and Enter Password dialog boxes. • Press to change the Administrator Password. • The default Administrator Password is 1234. If you forgot your administrator password, do the following to retrieve the administrator password: • Press MENU for more than four seconds when the Enter Password or Enter Administrator Password dialog box is currently displayed. • Write down the Unlock ID and contact with Acer service center.
28 English English Management ECO Mode Choose On to dim the projector lamp which will lower power consumption, extend the lamp life and reduce noise. Choose Off to return normal mode. High Altitutde Choose On to turn on High Altitude mode. Operate the fans at full speed continuously to allow for proper cooling of the projector. Turn Off Mode • Instant Off: Enables you to turn off the projector immediately, without fan cooling process, by pressing the power button twice.
Choose On to mute the volume. Choose Off to restore the volume. 3D 3D Choose On to enable the 3D functions supported by TI DLP 3D technology. Choose this item when using DLP 3D glasses, a quad buffer (NVIDIA or ATI) graphics card and HQFS format file or DVD with corresponding SW player. Choose Off to turn off 3D mode.
30 English Language English Language Choose the language for your OSD menu. Use the key to select your preferred language. Press to confirm the selection.
The Acer projector you have bought has integrated DLP 3D technology. Important: When you turn the 3D technology on, you will be shown a reminder that 3D is enabled. If you do not wish to view 3D content, you should turn it off, otherwise the image may not be projected at full brightness. Using DLP 3D technology Before you can enjoy the benefits of the DLP 3D technology, you will need to do the following. 1 Ensure your graphics card supports 3D playback.
Set 3D to On. 4 Alternatively, press on your projector’s remote control to open Acer e3D Management. From the 3D options, select On. 5 If you find that the 3D content is not displaying properly, try selecting 3D Sync Invert from the projector OSD or Acer e3D Management.
Using the stereoscopic player You need to have a stereoscopic player in order to view 3D content. The instructions below explain how to view 3D content using the stereoscopic player that is available at www.3dtv.at. Other players may have different procedures. 1 Open the stereoscopic player and set the viewing method by going to View > Viewing Method > Software pageflipping. 2 Open the 3D content in the player. Note: You need to view content at fullscreen resolution in order to get the 3D effects.
DLP 3D glasses are powered. In order to enhance battery life, they turn off after a few minutes of inactivity. Before you can view 3D content, you need to ensure the glasses are turned on. In many cases, there is a power switch on one of the arms that you can press, and an LED that indicates if the glasses are turned on or not. Note: Refer to the documentation that came with your glasses for instructions how to turn them on and how to change the battery.
If you find that the 3D content is not displaying properly, try selecting 3D Sync Invert from the projector OSD or Acer e3D Management.
36 English English Appendices Troubleshooting If you experience a problem with your Acer projector, refer to the following troubleshooting guide. If the problem persists, please contact your local reseller or service center. Image problems and solutions # Problem Solution 1 No image appears onscreen • • • 2 Partial, scrolling or incorrectly displayed image [For PC (Windows 95/98/2000/XP)] • • Ensure the projector is properly connected as described in "Getting started" on page 8.
Image is unstable or flickering • • 5 Image has vertical flickering bar • • Adjust the Tracking to correct it. Refer to "Image" on page 22 for more information. Change the display color depth settings on your computer. Use Frequency to make an adjustment. Refer to "Image" on page 22 for more information. Check and reconfigure the display mode of your graphics card to make it compatible with the projector.
Lamp burns out or makes a popping sound • When the lamp reaches the end of its useful life, it will burn out and may make a loud popping sound. If this happens, the projector will not turn on until the lamp module has been replaced. To replace the lamp, please refer to "Replacing the lamp" on page 41. 1 2 3 4 Turn the projector off then unplug the power cord. Pull the dust filter out (Illustration #1). Clean or replace the dust filter. To put the dust filter back, reverse the previous steps. (Illustration #1) Cleaning the dust filter Clean the dust filter after every 1000 hours of use. If it is not cleaned periodically, it can become clogged with dust, preventing proper ventilation. This can cause overheating and damage the projector.
The projector will detect the lamp life. You will be shown a warning message: Lamp is approaching the end of its useful life in full power operation. Replacement Suggested! When you see this message, change the lamp as soon as possible. Make sure the projector has cooled down for at least 45 minutes before changing the lamp. Warning! Do not attempt to replace the lamp yourself. Contact the qualified service personnel for replacement.
If you wish to install the projector using a ceiling mount, please refer to the steps below: Drill four holes into a solid, structurally sound part of the ceiling, and secure the mount base. m m m 13 m 20 1 .9 49mm mm 8.4 130 mm Note: Screws are not included. Use the appropriate number of screws for the projector size to attach the projector to the ceiling mount bracket.
