Chapter 6 Configuring Advanced Settings
Remote Management/Telnet
Selecting Remote Management in the Advanced Setup tab generates the “Remote
Management/Telnet screen. Remote Management allows access to the Modem
through the Internet via another computer. Actiontec recommends leaving the
Remote Management and Remote Telnet Off (the factory default setting).
To access the Modem from the Internet, activate Remote Management by enter-
ing the Admin User Name and Password in the appropriate text boxes, selecting
On next to “Remote Management, and writing down the WAN IP address of the
Modem (see WAN IP Address”). On a computer outside of the network, open a
Web browser and enter the Modems WAN IP address in the address text box. The
Modems Home screen (or a password prompt, if a password has been set) appears
in the browser window.
Note: Before Remote Management can be activated, the admin-
istrator password must be set. To do this, see “Changing the User
Name and Password)” on page 15.
To access the Modem via Telnet, activate Remote Telnet by selecting On next to
“Remote Telnet.
Telnet Timeout Setting
If Remote Telnet is activated in the Remote Management/Telnet screen, select Telnet
Timeout Settings to generate the “Telnet Timeout Setting screen. Here, select the
amount of idle time before a Telnet session is automatically disconnected.
