7.3.1 Adaptec SCSI Driver Revision Verification
If the system has Windows NT pre-installed and an AIC78XX driver was installed, verify the
Adaptec device driver is the proper revision:
1. Using Windows NT Explorer, open the
<systemroot>\system32\drivers
directory and
locate
aic78xx.sys
. Insure the NT Explorer options are set to display all files as noted
in the Windows NT Configuration General Setup
instructions in this document.
2. If the driver is not present it must be installed.
3. Right mouse click the file and select
Properties
from the menu.
4. Choose the
Version
tab and verify the
File Version
reflects a version in the driver
revision chart.
5. If the version is not correct, the driver must be updated.
7.3.2 Installing or Updating the Adaptec SCSI Device Driver
If the ADAPTEC SCSI device driver is not the correct revision or is missing from the system,
this procedure should be followed to update the driver.
1. Open the
Control Panels
and double-click on
SCSI
Adapters.
2. Select the
Drivers
tab, and check for an existing Adaptec AHA-294X/AHA-394X or AIC-
78XX PCI SCSI driver.
3. If the driver is not present skip to step 5. Otherwise, select the driver and click the
Remove
button
.
4. Choose
Yes
to the “
Are you sure you want to remove this driver
” dialog.
5.
Choose the
Add
button.
6.
In the
Install
Driver
window, click the
Have
Disk
button.
7.
Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Driver diskette or point to the appropriate path
where the drivers are located.
8. At the
Copy manufacturer’s files from
box, type
a:\winnt\4_0
for diskette or point to the
appropriate path and click OK.
9. At the
Install Driver
window click OK.
10. Respond to "
Do you want to use the currently installed driver(s) or install new
one(s)
", by selecting the
New
button.
11. Type
a:\winnt\4_0
or point to the appropriate path and click continue.
