GENERAL SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
This new release of software incorporates several new features not available in previous
releases of the QUIKSTOR software. New features have been added to support other H19/89 TLB
ROM's than the standard Heath TLB ROM, although they will not be supported by Quikdata. Previous
releases of this software depended on the ANSI code in the H/Z19/89 TLB ROM. Other vendor's
ROMs such as the UltraROM and the SUPER19 ROM would not work, since they stripped out the
ANSI code. Both the PARTITION and BOOT tables in previous software releases used the ANSI
code exclusively and would not work with modified TLB ROM's that stripped or modified the
ANSI code. This new software supports both the ANSI and Heath codes and will automatically
switch to the code that the terminal can handle by polling the terminal upon activation and
sensing it's needs. This does not, however change our support. We still cannot and will not
support auxiliary vendor's hardware and software.
Other features in this version which many previous custome rs never knew about are the
PARTITION and BOOT table code features. Upon booting to bring up the partition table, the
software automatically senses terminal BAUD rate an adjusts itself to the baud automatically! In
the previous software this worked with the H19 and H89's, but not with the H29's. This has now
been fixed to also work on the H29 terminal (and I hope the H49 terminal - not tested yet). Since
the primary purchaser and user of this product is the H89er, we are satisfied that it performs
well on the H89 and went to special efforts to ensure its successful operations on the only
'other' terminal for the H8 as of software development - the H8 with H29. You have to stop
somewhere, and this was the -where.
Quikdata's QUIKSTOR hard disk system is sold to work on a standard Heath/Zenith H8 or H89
computer system. By standard, we mean the way it comes from the factory either assembled or
in kit form. It may work on modified systems (e.g., it works with the Trionyx H8 boards and the D-G H8
boards, and D-G Super '89 boards), but all we are able to guarantee is that it will work on a
standard Heath/Zenith H8 and/or H89, running standard H/Z software. We would like to be able to
cover everything, but obviously from the man-hour support view, this is impossible.
SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION Make certain that your 2.2.03 or 2.2.04 CP/M is properly configured
for both upper and lower case characters. Also be certain that your 2.0 HDOS is configured for
both upper and lower case characters. Additionally, under HDOS, your terminal width must be set
to a value greater than 80. It's best to set this and leave it at 255. This can easily be
accomplished from the HDOS prompt as follows:
SET TT: WIDTH 255
If this is not done and you have the width set for 80 characters or less, the partition table will
not come up properly, as some lines will attempt to 'wrap around', messing up the entire screen.
