QSFORMAT C: TO DS,Z-100
Will cause the 5" disk in drive C: to to be formatted as double sided Z-100 double density.
During formatting of disks on the H-17 and H-37, the current cylinder being formatted (which is the
same as the track on a floppy) will be displayed on the console. When formatting has been
completed, a message will be displayed stating that the formatting was successful, and the user
will be asked whether he wishes a media check performed. The media check will read ALL
sectors from the disk, and any unreadable sectors will be assigned to the file "BADBLOCK.BAD" so that
they will not be accessed by 'other programs. This allows continued use of disks which contain one or
more bad sectors. However, any disks which show more than a few bad sectors should be
discarded.
FORMAT Error Messages
** ERROR ** Diskette Is Write Protected This indicates that the diskette you are attempting to
format is write protected. In the case of 5" disks, REMOVE the write protect tab. In the case of 8"
disks, INSTALL a write enable tab. If this error occurs on formatting a Winchester partition, it
will be necessary to exit the format program, and run the partitioning program to change the
write protect status for the partition before it can be formatted.
** ERROR ** Diskette Is Incorrect Type Or Improperly Inserted This indicates that an invalid disk was
placed in the drive, or it was not correctly inserted in the drive. This error will occur if a hard
sector disk is inserted in a soft sector drive, or vice versa, or if the disk is inserted upside
down, backwards, etc. This can also indicate that the drive speed is out of spec.
** ERROR ** Unable To Select This Disk The BIOS will not return the parameters for the requested
disk. This usually indicates that the requested drive simply does not exist. Check your entry and try
again.
** ERROR ** Unable To Read Directory Sectors This indicates that an unreadable sector was found in
the disk directory during the media test. Diskettes with bad directory sectors cannot be used, as
directory sectors cannot be locked out. The proper action is to try again to format and media
test the diskette. If the error re-occurs, the diskette should be discarded. If this error occurs
frequently, the drives probably require servicing.
** ERROR ** Illegal Drive Specification The specified drive is not a valid CP/M drive (A: - P:), or
