Attach cable to grate by clamping in center of grate (see Fig. A). When cable is properly attached, it will hang down
center of window well. Cable should be attached to grate prior to placing grate on window well.
STEP 1:
In order to set up your security kit, you will need to have basement window screen removed to permit access to lower
portion of window well. Leave screen off until you have shown everyone in household how to operate release.
STEP 2:
Anchor bar must be positioned in center of window well, below window opening, perpendicular to house and
reasonably level. If level is not possible, then pointed end of the anchor bar (towards the foundation) should be lower.
On a corrugated metal window well the foot should be positioned horizontally between 2 ridges (see Fig. B). Position
pointed end of anchor bar toward house and below window. By turning large nut on the length adjuster counter-
clockwise, anchor bar will expand until point embeds into metal window casement or foundation. If anchor bar is too
long, it may be cut down by removing point and sawing the tube with hacksaw. If more than two inches is to be
removed, then each end of tube must be cut so that eyebolt remains reasonably close to center of window well.
STEP 3:
Now you are ready to lock grate down. Eyebolt should be raised to its full height above the anchor bar to allow
maximum movement for final tension adjustment. Attach panic snap into anchor bar eyebolt with its red arrow facing
window. Cable coming down from grate should pass through one side of cable clamp, through eye on panic snap and
back up through other side of cable clamp (see Fig. B), pulling it tight and tightening clamp. Now eyebolt can be
adjusted down, putting tension on cable by loosening top nut and tightening bottom nut. The panic snap is unique in
that it can be released under tension, although too much tension will make it difficult to re-hook. Tighten top nut on
eyebolt so that adjustment position is retained when panic snap is released. Loose end of cable may be attached to
tensioned cable with nylon ties provided.
STEP 4:
Test and demonstrate quick release to household, then replace screen.
