CHAPTER 9

3D Compositing
You can also move 3D layers by dragging the layer in the Composition window. Dragging
within a layer using the selection tool moves the layer within the cameras plane of view.
Dragging a layer handle using the rotation tool constrains the rotation to a particular axis.
Note: The axis along which you can drag a layer depends on the composition 3D view. For
information on 3D views, see “Understanding 3D views” on page 291.
To adjust the position or rotation of a 3D layer in the Composition window:
1 Select the 3D layer you want to move.
2 In the toolbox, do one of the following:
To adjust the position of a layer, click the selection tool ( ).
To rotate a layer, click the rotation tool ( ) or ( ). (The latter icon indicates that you
are adjusting a different Rotation property value. See “Understanding 3D rotation on
page 288 for more information.)
3 In the Composition window, do one of the following:
Using the selection or rotation tool, position the pointer over any one of the axis arrows
(until the name of the axis appears next to the pointer) and drag the axis. You can drag the
pointer inside or outside the Composition window.
Using the selection or rotation tool, drag anywhere on a layer.
Using the rotation tool, drag a layer handle. If you drag a layer corner point, the layer
rotates along the Z axis; if you drag a left or right layer handle, the layer rotates along the
Y axis; if you drag a top or bottom layer handle, the layer rotates along the X axis.
To move the anchor point in 3D space using the axes:
1 Select the layer whose anchor point you want to move.
2 In the toolbox, click the pan behind tool ( ).
3 In the Composition window, position the pointer over the center of the axes and drag.
Note: This procedure also adjusts the layer position relative to the composition so that the
layer remains in the same place in the composition that it occupied before you moved the
anchor point. To move the layer relative only to the anchor point, either move the anchor point
in the layer window or change the anchor position value in the Timeline window.
