Mounting t he M onitor to the Manhole
Rim
Mount i ng a monitor to the manho l e rim has certain advantages.
Removing and r einstalling are easier. The rim may be more
structurally so und than deteriorated rungs. Ho wever, the manhole
lid must clear the mounting hardware while it is removed or
replaced.
Mount t he monitor bracket/flange (ADS p/n I40 -0009) to the
manhole r im in the following way:
1. Determine the appropriate location to mount the monitor
handle to the inside of the iron manhole rim. Consider the
following when selecting the proper location:
Select a location that will allo w you to remove the monitor
easil y during service visit s using the mounting b racket
(extension handle).
Select a location that provides only a minimal potential for
the monitor to experience surcharge conditions.
Select a location that will prevent the manhole lid from
potentially damaging the monitor during removal or when
rot ating in the opening.
Select a location that will allo w personnel to enter /e xit the
manhole without removing monitor.
2. Hold the keyhole at the top end of the bracket against the lower
inner rim of the manhole, and mark the locatio n for the
stainless steal stud thr ough the keyhol e in the b racket . Make
sure there will be enough room to lift the bracket up and over
the stud whe n installed.
3. Drill a hole(s) into the manhole rim 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep using
a carbide-tipped 5/16-inch drill bit or one that matches the size
of the anchor bolt to be inserted.
