Intrinsic Safety
Intrinsic safety is an electronic hardware p r o tection concept that
ensure s there a re no c onditi ons under which the equipment can
operate that could cause a release o f energy sufficient to ignite a
hazardous gas or d ust mixture. Devices that meet the low power,
current-limited design criteria are deemed Intrinsically Safe (IS).
Special design, testing, quality, and inspection rules apply to
manufacturers and users of IS equipment due to the critical nature
of its deployment in hazardous areas. Areas where hazardous
conditions can be expected to be present on a constant basis are
classified (rated) as Zone 0 (equivalent to Class I, Division 1, in
North America).
The TRITON+ flow monitor (Model 8000-FST-IM) is certified for
use in North Americ a in areas where the Class/Division system is
observed. The TRITON+ has been tested to worldwide IECEx
(International Elec tr otechnical Commission Explo sive) standards
and is certified for use in areas r eq uiring Class I, Division 1,
equipment. The IECEx scheme allows demonstrated comp liance
