- FSDG-Paro - INTRODUCTION “Where’s that one airport that really challenges my pilot skills?” If you ever asked yourself that question, the answer is here! Paro, Bhutan is widely considered being the hardest and most dangerous approach in the world. Far more difficult than Sint Maarten or Madeira, even more difficult than the legendary Hong Kong Kai Tak which has long ago been shut down.

- FSDG-Paro - PARO AIRPORT At a mere 15,000 citizens Paro is a relatively small town in the western part of the Kingdom of Bhutan. It would probably be known only to a few Himalaya-lovers and mountaineers if it wasn't for the fact that it hosts the country's sole international airport. But of course, that alone doesn't make it the legendary place it is in the minds of every aviation fan.

- FSDG-Paro - APPROACH PROCEDURES The one thing that makes Paro such a dangerous place for every aircraf is its location high up in the mountains, but still deep in the valley, with steep slopes on both sides of the river that runs through it – in numbers: 7,332f above sea level but still more than 10,000f below the highest peaks that surround it! If you want to land at Paro you have to be able to do a VOR approach in combination with a VFR landing with very limited options.
- FSDG-Paro - The most common approach to Paro is for runway 15, and this one is even more difficult to learn. If you look at the charts (see Appendix) you will find that the first part of the approach is a typical VOR approach with the aircraf passing PRO VOR (118.4) at 13,500f and then turning to 328° to overfly the airport, descending to 12,500f 5.0 miles outside PRO VOR. The aircraf passes directly above the airport, allowing the pilots to look down to check weather conditions.
- FSDG-Paro - As you can see on the image the aircraf is facing Paro Dzong with the mountain ridge very close on the lef. It's only now that the pilots are able to see the runway. If they don't, they immediately execute a missed approch and return to PRO VOR. Now the aircraf is more or less flying in the direction of the runway, but with some 1.5 miles ofset to the lef.
- FSDG-Paro - TUTORIAL & EXAM MISSION We found that even with the video tutorials and writen documentation it is still very difficult to learn how to fly the approach to Paro. That's why we decided to create a mission that takes you through the procedures in a way where you can practically not fail. Your copilot will assist you in almost every aspect of the flight, and the visual approach helper will show you the way through the valley.
- FSDG-Paro - AI TRAFFIC As of 2015 none of the usual AI traffic addons (MyTraffic, Ultimate Traffic, World of AI) include AI flightplans for Paro. One reason for that is that due to the complex approach procedures the FSX/P3D AI system isn't able to make AI aircraf land at Paro. They will either crash into the high mountains or overfly the airport thousands of feet above the runway.
- FSDG-Paro - TEXTURE RESOLUTION This add-on makes use of 2048x2048 textures to give the best possible resolution of ground textures. By default, FSX does not load 2048 textures with their highest resolution. To overcome this, simply navigate to your FSX.CFG and make the necessary changes. For Windows Vista and 7 the file can be found by the following steps: 1) Press start menu and type in the search box: %appdata% 2) Open the following folders: Microsof FSX 3) Find FSX.
- FSDG-Paro - SCENERY CONFIGURATOR (FSX/P3D) FSDG-Paro ofers a few switchable items via the FSDG Scenery Configurator. To be able to access this control panel, you need to have downloaded and installed the FSDG Scenery Configurator sofware. This is freely available in the ‘Tools’ sections of our webshop: htp://fsdgonline.com For additional help, please refer to the Configurator Help manual, which can be accessed direclty via the FSDG scenerye configurator tool, or contact us for additional support.
- FSDG-Paro - F.A.Q. Q: Is this add-on DX10 compatble? (FSX) A: The scenery is compatible with DX10, in combination with SteveFX DX10 fix (more info here: htps://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/how-to-purchase/) Q: Is this add-on P3D compatble? A: Yes, you can use FSDG-Paro with Prepar3D V2 and V3. If you run the missions in V3 you might get an error message. This does not afect the mission, it will run without any problems, so just disregard that message.
