4. Cable Length Compensation
When the test sample is measured with an instrument having a Four-Terminal Pair configuration, the additional length
of the test-lead extension between the instrument and the test sample, in conjunction with the measurement frequen-
cy, influences the amplitude and phase of the signal being measured. This must be taken into account, particularly for
measurements performed at frequencies of 100 kHz or higher, since the modification of the amplitude and phase of the
signal can cause the internal measurement circuit to malfunction or create an unexpected measurement error. Such cir-
cuit malfunctions and measurement errors can be avoided with cable length compensation. Cable length compensation
should therefore be performed prior to the open/short compensation. When the following measurement instruments
and test leads are used in combination, the undesired effects described above can be eliminated by performing the
cable length compensation (the values in the table represent cable length settings):

Measurement Repeatability
Dirty electrodes on the test fixture cause an increase in the contact resistance. This increase in resistance can cause poor
measurement repeatability. Therefore, the electrode of the test fixture must be kept clean when measurements are per-
formed.
