20 Getting Started Guide
1 Quick-Start
Source Level Accuracy
To ensure accurate power levels from the Vector Signal Generator, two adjustments need
to be run; they are known as Source Alignment and Power Search.
Source Alignment
This alignment is needed when you change the source output frequency, and also when
the instrument’s internal temperature has drifted more than 4 degrees C since the
alignment was last performed (temperature can be checked by sending a SCPI command
(:CAL:TEMP:CURR?).
The alignment is not run automatically by the test set, nor does it run at power-up, nor is
it run in response to
System > Alignments > Align Now > All. The alignment must be
called explicitly, as described below. (However, the alignment data is saved and survives
a power cycle.)
To run the source alignment, select
System > Alignments > Align Now > Source, or
send the SCPI command :CAL:INT:SOUR. The alignment takes approximately two
seconds to run.
Power Search
The power search feature provides a means to control source power when ALC is off
(which is sometimes needed for burst signals).
To run the source power search, select
Source > Amplitude > Do Power Search, or
send the SCPI command :SOURce:POWer:ALC:SEARch. This takes very little time
to run (typically below 1 ms).
