Network description

Overview

A high level overview of a 2G/3G wireless network is presented below

describing how base station locations are selected, the different base

hardware that may be deployed, and their interconnection with other

base stations, the Public Switched Telephone Network, and the

Internet.

A simplified block diagram showing how the different Lucent base

station cabinets interface with the mobile Switching Center and the

1xEV-DO radio access network (RAN) to form a wireless network, is

shown in the figure below.
