Broadband (xDSL) traffic is routed through synchronous transport module 1 (STM-1) optical or E3/DS3 electrical interfaces to the ATM backbone, and through a GigaEthernet port (10/100/1000Base-T or optical 100/1000 FX) to the (typically) IP backbone.
