AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router Before installing ■ Unpack the router and verify the package contents. If any items are damaged or missing, contact your sales representative. ■ If you have purchased any Port Interface Cards (PICs), you will need the PIC and PIC Quick Install Guide. Read “Installing PICs” on page 6 for further details. ■ Read the safety information “Safety” on page 25.
Installation and Safety Guide Installing the Router in a Rack 1. Check the rack. • Ensure that the rack is safely secured and that it will not tip over. Devices in a rack should be installed starting at the bottom, with the heavier devices near the bottom of the rack. • Ensure the rack has sufficient space for the router and its associated cables. The router is 1U high. 2. Unscrew the feet from the router, if you have previously attached them. 3.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router Installing the Router on a Level Surface 1. Check the level surface. Ensure it has sufficient space for the router and its associated cables. 2. Screw the rubber feet provided into the correct holes on the underside of the router. This will stop the router from slipping, and protect the level surface from scratches.
Installation and Safety Guide Using an AT-PWR03 Power Supply (PSU) Warning All AC and DC versions of this equipment must be earthed. Warning The maximum power supply requirements for the AR750S-DP are clearly displayed on the rear of each AT-PWR03 power supply. If the supply is outside the accepted range, the router may not operate, or damage to the router or PSU may result. Use only AT-PWR03 power supplies to power an AR750S-DP Router.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router Installing the Power Supply Before installing a power supply: ■ gather the necessary tools and equipment ■ read the section “Using an AT-PWR03 Power Supply (PSU)” on page 9 1. Unpack the power supply unit. Caution Follow correct anti-static procedures when installing a PSU. Failure to do so could damage the PSU or router. If you are unsure about correct procedures, contact your authorised Allied Telesis distributor or reseller.
Installation and Safety Guide Top of Router PSU (DC) Captive screw Captive screw PSU Insert Firmly press the PSU until the faceplate engages, or nearly engages, the chassis. 5. Secure the power supply unit. Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to tighten the two captive Phillips screws on the faceplate of the PSU.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router 1. Check that the power supply and cable is not live. Ensure the circuit breaker for the supply circuit is in the off position, and the PSU run/standby button is in the standby position. When the run/standby button is not depressed, it is in standby. 2. Plug the supply cable into the router. Plug the provided DC power cord into the power inlet on the faceplate of the PSU. The plug is keyed with locking tabs, and will only fit in the inlet one way.
Installation and Safety Guide 4. Connect the cable to the circuit breaker. Connect the supply cable wires to the circuit breaker, in accordance with the applicable wiring regulations in your region, and in conjunction with any safety guide information for the DC supply unit. Ensure there are no exposed cable strands. The correct wire colour for each polarity is: • blue: negative • black: earth • red: positive Caution Check that the supply cable wires are wired to the correct polarity.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router Removing a Power Supply Before removing a PSU from the router: ■ gather the necessary tools and equipment ■ read the section “Using an AT-PWR03 Power Supply (PSU)” on page 9 Warning Disconnect the power cord before removing the PSU. 1. Disconnect the power to the PSU. For AC models, turn off the main power supply to the PSU and disconnect the power cord. For DC models, push the run/standby button on the back of the PSU, so that the PSU is in the standby position.
Installation and Safety Guide Configuring the Router The AR750S-DP comes with a simple default configuration (“AR750S-DP Default Configuration” on page 20).
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router • To connect via a LAN, use an Ethernet cable to connect the router’s switch port(s) to the device(s) on the LAN. Select the LAN PC from which you wish to configure the router. The PC should be in the same subnet as the part of the LAN that contains the router (for example, the PC could be connected to a hub or Layer 2 switch that is directly connected to one of the router’s switch ports).
Installation and Safety Guide Caution As a security precaution, change the password as soon as possible. Remember the new password, as there is no way to retrieve it if it is lost. To change the password, select Management > Users from the sidebar menu. Select the Manager account and click Modify. 5. Customise the router for your region. Change the default ISDN territory to your region.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router Configure with the Command Line Interface (CLI) Caution If another device on your network already uses the router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, do not connect the AR750S-DP to the network until you have changed the IP address of the router’s default VLAN using the CLI. 1. Initiate router start-up.
Installation and Safety Guide 2. Log in and set the password. The login prompt appears on the terminal or PC. If the login prompt does not appear, press [Enter] two or three times. When the router boots for the first time it automatically creates an account with manager privileges. The account has the login name “manager” and the password is “friend”. Passwords are case sensitive. At the login prompt, enter the login name and password.
AR750S-DP Secure VPN Router 5. Use the CLI to continue configuring the router. See the AR700 Series Router Software Reference for details about commands available for configuring the router (including a list of message definitions).
